Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • You could try checking the lump just once a week.

(When I was initially fearing my demise after previous breast cancer and the dreaded Googling of the symptom back in March, a GP advised me to only check the lymoh node once a week. When it had been the same for 3 weeks, I saw another GP at the practice who noticed a smaller lump in the same place on the other side, then there was a precautionary blood test and ultrasound, then the second vaccination .... I was advised at the ultrasound visit that no further action is needed unless the lump(s) get bigger. At the second vaccination, the doctor giving the vaccine said that these lymph nodes may stay up for as long as a year. Now it's 14 weeks since I noticed the collarbone lump, and not much change so far, except that I am no longer worrying and panicking like I was at first before I found this forum.)

  • I have tried so hard not to keep checking mine. I was ok for a couple of weeks but now seem to be checking it lots again. I can't decide if that is because it aching or it's aching because I am checking it!

i ll let you know how the scan goes.

    good luck with yours.

    love and light xxx

  • Thank you for this reassurance and long may you be healthy xx

  • Hello

I definitely think not touching it really helps. I also think warm compresses helps too, I did this and mine went down.

  • How did you get on at your ultra sound.

    hope you are ok

    xx

  • Hello

I had my first ultrasound on 24 May. They said all was ok, collarbone node was 4mm and there was one in my neck 7mm. They still said all was fine. I literally skipped out the room then a few days later received a letter from my GP asking me to call them about my results which I did and basically they said all was fine but they want to do a follow up, just for completeness.

I just can't understand why they said all was fine but then get a call back, I should feel grateful which I am but wish they would have said oh by the way see you in 6 weeks.

I have also had a blood test that was absolutely fine and GP said all goes hand in hand, if my white blood cells were through the roof then more investigations were needed.

I have my next scan on 5 July so fingers crossed xx

  • I hope your scan on the 5th is all ok.

I had an examination by an oncologist  who said in her experience my lump is nothing to worry about and she would review again in October. I have since had a letter from the same hospital with my ultrasound appointment for 30th and a follow up appointment for 8th July. I called them to question why I am being seen so quickly and they just said that they had space so have bumped me up the queue. It definitely worries you when your consultation seems to contradict your correspondence xxx

  • Hello,

It is really stressful isn't it. I feel like starting a campaign as a support group as I have had a lot of people from UK and USA message me about it panicking.

If it is vaccine related and there was enough said about it, I would not be worrying as I am now.

Ah you saw an oncologist? Xx

  • I've had my lump since end of Jan - noticed it about 1 week after first dose of Pfizer vaccine.
My bloods came back normal and I have had ultrasound - 7mm lymph node but looks normal.
mine aches sometimes and I do feel anxious about it and prod it often. Going to try to leave it alone and see if that helps.

  • I think so. Or it might have been a Haematologist. I was sent to the oncology and haematology ward at the hospital. I felt such a fraud as there were some very ill people waiting to be seen xxx
