Swollen lymph nodes & neck ultrasound results

I had a neck ultrasound this morning due to some swollen lymph nodes. Following the scan, the sonographer refused to tell me the results. I asked if she saw anything abnormal and also asked if I needed to worry, but to both questions she responded that she needed to review the images and write a report which she would send to the GP and I would then get the results from my GP.

I have had two ultrasounds in the past (abdominal) and both were normal (fortunately). At these ultrasounds, I was told they were normal immediately after the scan by the sonographer.

The sonographers refusal to tell me whether she saw anything abnormal and respond when I asked if I needed to worry has me very, VERY scared.

Is it normal not to receive neck ultrasound results immediately after the test? Please let me know if this has happened to you.

  • Hi Jadeb91 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms, this must be a rather scary and worrying time.

I noticed you have made your post in response to Maz1970. They haven't been on the forum in quite some time while and this discussion hasn't been active in over 3 years so you may not get a reply.

I really hope that won't be the case but if you don't hear back from Maz1970, it might be worth starting your own discussion or posting on more recent discussions you find out about this topic on the forum as it will increase your chances of getting a reply.

If you'd like to discuss your situation further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to answer your questions and your put your mind at ease about what's to come.

We're thinking of you Jadeb91 and wishing you all the best with your next ENT appointment.

    Kind regards,
