Vacuum Assisted Biopsy - any experience?

Hi everyone,

I've just had a letter today confirming I need to go for a vaccum assisted breast biopsy, had mammogram, ultrasound and 3 biopsies taken on 16th July and consultant confirmed these were benign but she wasn't happy with what was showing on ultrasound so was sending me for vacuum assisted biopsy.  Does anyone have any experience of having this done, I'm terrified because it sounds horrific.  I know it has to be done but would just like to know what to expect before I have it done.  Thanks.

  • Easier said than done, right! But I honestly fretted all week about this procedure. Felt very poorly with all the stress.

what can I say, the nurses were amazing and the procedure was not as bad as I imagined.

boob placed in the clamp and I lay on my side. The needle felt a little sting but not to the point where I wanted to shout out. Bearable. Lasted a few seconds.

The  biopsy I didn't really feel, I was told if I did feel anything it would feel like an elastic band. I was reassured if it felt uncomfortable I would get more anisthetic. I didn't need any more.

  • I had a Vabb procedure done due to dense breast tissue 1 week ago.

I have been really unwell since !

I have a 9cm haematoma , swelling and very painful.

I am returning to the clinic in a couple of days in the hope they can do something to relieved these symptoms.

I am not a large person and I think this is something that should be considered before such a procedure

Has anybody else had a similar experience ? What can be done about the haematoma if there is no reduction in its size naturally ?.
