Breast clinic, what will happen at my appointment?

Hi, I am 29 and worrying!

I have a young son and recently found a lump in my breast.

Before the lump was found I had a lot of pain and swelling in that area. It's right under my nipple. The swelling has gone and so has the pain but after 2 courses of antibiotics the lump is still there and obviously more noticeable.

I'm not sure if I should worry because I've heard if it's painful its usually good sign!

Due to covid the GP has referred me to the breast clinic. I haven't yet received my appointment but I am wondering if anyone can give me advice on what will happen during my appointment? Scans etc.

    Hi Mary,

The Multidisciplinary team Meetings (MDT), are usually held every week, so keep your fingers crossed for an earlier call.

    Kind regards

  • Thank you Jolamine.

They've said I'll find out via call or letter. I assume a letter is better than a call? A call seems more urgent in my opinion.

It's been a bit rough today as due to the heat I have had a reaction to the dressing..I have now taken it off but it's so itchy!

I'll update when I know the results, thank you for your support. It means alot!

  • Hi Mary,

Is it just due to the heat, or are you allergic to the adhesive in the dressing?  It's hard to be sure, but on the whole I'd rather have a phone call for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I'm unsure - the rash went a couple days ago so I imagine it was more related to heat. The only thing left now is a slight stinging pain every now and then in my nipple, as if it's burning slightly and it's alot more tender then it has been. Feels swollen again ha!

    Hopefully that will go soon!

And yeah, that's true. I really hope I hear this week but I still have another 2 and half weeks until the 3 weeks they said are up.

I'm going away for a few days soon though so that should take my mind off it.

    Xx
