bad news over the phone?

Hi everyone,

Sorry to post yet again about my results. I really feel like I don't belong here as I am waiting for a diagnosis that may or may not be cancer.

I heard recently of someone who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour over the phone - has anyone here received bad news from a phone appointment? I will have my results read to me over the phone by my consultant and I really don't know what to expect.

Thanks!

- L

  • I'm so sorry to read this, I hope you're doing ok and treatment is helping. Xx

  • I'm so sorry to hear this I hope your doing okay? How long was you waiting for the results I'll not know until a month since the mri xx

  • Hi ... sorry to hear this..

I am in a similar situation.. have a sore throat, hoarse voice, swelling on my rt side of my neck and hard swallowing . Had a benign tumour there 20yrs ago in my salvia gland. Ultrasound, bloods were normal.
Had mri with contrast .. awaiting results ... following the cancer pathway .. so I don't know how long it will take ? Says in a letter my ent consultant will call with results .. x

i feel your pain as waiting is so hard ... x

  • Hiya..... im sorry your results showed cancer.... I had a smear test 14 May after a unusually long and heavy what I thought was a period?. I have still not recieved my smear test result but was asked today to book a phone app with my gp. I went to gp and asked if this was concerning my smear results and she said its not regarding your smear but its about your biopsy results? I wasn't aware of a biopsy being taken.... my phone app is 16th June and I'm unsure if I shoukd be expecting bad news as I have not even recieved smear results and it has just jumped to a biopsy?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

  • Hello

I had a liver biopsy on the 26th July and they already booked me on for a telephone consultation on the 23rd August. I assume they would call me sooner if its cancer...... right? Its such a long wait!

  • I wouldn't like to say either way but going of my own experience I did have a long wait for results such as blood work or results from scans. The results of my cancer were a bit of a wait also. It's not the best news to give you but I wish I had clear answers when I was waiting. In short no matter the result you will probably have a long wait, so the best advice I can give you is to take each day as it comes small steps are massive achievements, and no matter what there is always someone around to help pick you up on any down days you may have. X

  • I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this now, I hope all went well with you're results. X

  • I found a breast lump early July. All my tests have been weeks apart with the last one (needle biopsy) a week ago. Nothing showed on ultra sound or mammogram but they did biopsy to be sure as could all feel a lump. I was told at biopsy he thought it was nothing and you shouldn't need to see us again we will write with results but now I've been sent an appt in another 2 weeks. It has been a diff doctor every time too which could be why its an appt rather than written but my mind is assuming the worst.

All this waiting is killing me. Feel like a fraud posting as its probably nothing

  • You're absolutely not a fraud and you're feelings are just!! It's so scary and the waiting is definitely the worst part you're mind is racing thinking all sorts and google has no doubt become you're daily/nightly new habit. I wish I had some amazing advice to rest you're mind, what I will say is don't hold it in... scream, cry, laugh whatever you need to do just do it. Keeping everything crossed for you. Xxxx

  • Hi

I had a lump under arm collar bone and Areola

I was seen in Dec 2020, had all the tests and needle biopsy ONLY on areola.

I heard nothing for 8 month.

Then I got a call on 24th August to go in next morning.

They weren't concerned about shoulder blade or under armpit.

But said the lump near nipple/Areola had grown and looks suspicious. I had to have covid test day after isolate for 3 days and they had me on for excisional biopsy on 3rd September.

They removed my dressing. I lost my areola , but still have my nipple.

I have just recieved an apt for a telephone call on 17th September at 9.30 day after MDT meeting.

I am hoping it's good news, because it's over the telephone.

Good luck to everyone,  I keep u posted xx
