Worried about MRI and Nasendoscopy

Hi Everyone,

I`m new here. I`m very very stressed after my ENT phone consultation. I`ve been strugling with sore throat and ear pain for few weeks already and it`s mostly on one side, but sometimes I feel pain on the other ear too. The pain disapear when I swallow food or drink. I have it every day, but not all the time - it comes and goes. The doctor I spoke with said I need to deffinetly come and see him for nasendoscopy next week and he wants me to do MRI of my neck/throat beforehand. When I type MRI and nasendoscopy on google all I see is Cancer diagnosis. I`m completely out of my mind right now especially my grandad died of vocal cord cancer and my little brother had lymphomia (luckly he`s won the battle). I`m trying to think - I do not have any other symptoms (no swollen lymphs, I`m in a good physical shape etc but on the other hand I`ve been smoking for about 12 years (I know stupid me). Do you have any tips to ease down stress and anxiaty whilst waiting for my appointment? I would really apretiate that!

Thank you x

  • Oh sorry to hear that you have tonsil stones, I never had them (at least i`m not aware...) so don`t know what to advice you in this case. Other than I can tell you what else I tried to help with neck tightness:

    - osteopath massage - stressed caused by my health anxiety had given me a horrible pressure at the back of my neck and after realising it, some tightness had gone down

    - sinus rinse and gargling throat with salt water - helps to get rid of post nasal drip from allergy but I can`t do it too much as it makes my nose bleed ...

    - trying to keep your mind occupied, as I`ve realised that the pain feels stronger when I think about it

    - make sure you do some walking/exercising and go out to get some fresh air every day

Fingers crossed it will go away soon! Maybe it`s just a very normal asymmetry that we were born with :)

Take care and try to relax :) xx

  • Some great advice there . Yes I'm sure my health anxiety heightens the symptoms.

also yes the dr did say that some people just have one bigger than the other , a bit like feet! Lol

thanks v much , you take care too xx

  • Hiya martynana

ive just accepted your friend question , sorry I've  only just seen it.
will drop you a message xx

  • Hi there

I'm in exactly the same situation

pains in my neck under my jawline on both sides and had ultra sound as my mum had cancer of the thyroid at 50 and thankfully survived it , I'm now 55 and they found a couple of lumps in mine but are benign, but to be safe they have booked me for bloods and I had a nasoscopy yesterday which showed my mouth and neck clear but the base of my tongue a bit swollen so he's booked me in for an mri

glands and lymph nodes seem ok but I too can't help but think the worst

Googling stuff is the worst so try not to worry too much , I keep thinking if it's the worst case scenario at least it's been caught early , not sleeping either so fingers crossed for us all on here that we get good results and stay positive xx

  • Hello Martynana and Winnie

Sorry to hear what you have been passing through. How did it end up?

Any diagnosis or recommend treatment? My ENT consultation will be next week. I have exactly the same symptoms for 6 months already and I'm very concerned.

Right tonsil enlarged, dry nose, pain in the mouth that reduces a little when I drink/eat, earache and headache not present all the time.

    Thanks
