Worried about raised gland

I’ve recently had a blood test as I have one enlarged lymph node at the base of my neck. I have an ultrasound booked next week. I have been clear of Lymphoma for four years and am now worried it’s come back. I have had health issues recently which could be the reason why my gland is up but nevertheless, I’m very worried.

  • I bet that was worrying finding out you had lymphoma, what did they do for you? I am guessing you had to have to have Chemo? How long did it take from diagnosis to treatment? And also is the biopsy done under general anaesthetic? Sorry for all the questions, as I have never been through this before so not sure how it will all pan out to be honest.

I know, the drs and nurses work so very hard and their care is so very good, which is why I am not going to worry about it all at the moment, I know we are all in good hands

  • It took four months in all from my first visit to the GP to diagnosis.  Two biopsies, ENT appointment and an ultrasound.. Both biopsies under local anaesthetic. Thought it was ok, not too painful at all. Chemo was every three weeks x six rounds.

  • Thank you for the information EdenCamp,

I have had biopsies done with local anaesthetics in other parts of my body, so glad it's also done that way, much quicker!

I am so glad the Chemo worked for you, maybe you have swollen glans after the Chemo or the Chemo has created nodules, I have heard of this. Chemo really knocks our immunity afterwards for a long time, but 99% of the time does the job of clearing the cancer. How long since you had your Chemo has these come up?
My Dad had Spinal cancer but unfortunately he left it too late thinking he had really bad Back Pain so the spinal tumour grew too big to be removed when they operated on him. So it's really important to get an early diagnosis for us all.
    Best wishes Missy

  • I finished chemo in 2016. Didn’t know about chemo nodules.. that’s interesting.  It’s gone up and down this week, never really getting that big. I’ve been lucky to have been clear for the last four years.

  • That's great news that you have been clear for so long

  • Yes, I’ve been really lucky. The treatment for the lymphoma I had is really good.

  • I am glad, the nhs has been amazing!
I have had 2 very serious double pnumonia's, both times I was hospitalised with only 4 months apart, plus enlarged heart because of it all the first time and they have been spot on with diagnosis and treatment, plus ongoing check ups too, they are being so very thorough thank goodness.

One of the check up scans picked up on the lump in my throat, so I feel had they not been so thorough I wouldn't know I had a lump, so feel even if it does prove to be Cancer it has been found very early which is great....feeling quite blessed really!

  • That’s the best way to look at things .. the waiting for diagnosis is the worst bit !

  • To advise that the result of my ultrasound seemed to go well. The chap doing it couldn’t find anything of note except a nodule on my thyroid which is apparently very common for women of a certain age .. Unbelievably relieved. Thanks for your support to anyone who commented.

  • That's GREAT NEWS!!! So pleased for you, it's very scary waiting for results and news, so now you can breath a sigh of relief
