Dent in breast and feels like a hole?!

Hi, I'm hoping I can find someone with similar issues as mine as I'm driving myself crazy! A few months ago I noticed a tiny dent in my breast, right under my nipple on the areola. Last weekend I caught sight of it in the mirror and i think it has gotten slightly bigger so I went to gp who has referred me for urgent 2 week appointment. I know how all of this goes as my sister has metastatic breast cancer in her bones and I was there from when she was diagnosed, through chemotherapy etc. Part of me feels that surely a family can't be so unlucky to have two sisters diagnosed within 5 years but I don't suppose cancer really cares who it targets! My main curiosity is that when I push the dent I can almost feel a hole, as though there is missing tissue. I can't find anything about this online , good or bad so I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

  • How did you get on? Hope all turned out OK x

  • Hi [@Krishos]

When I had my hospital appointment the doctor could clearly see what I was talking about, but couldn't feel any lumps.  Thankfully the ultrasound was all clear and the doctor said sometimes breast tissue can decrease under the nipple after having a baby and breastfeeding. It's not the norm though which is why I got referred, but yeah basically it's just one of those things and there's no valid explanation for it.

Hope everyone else tests go well ️

  • Hi, just wanted to join this thread as I'm currently waiting to hear from the breast Clinic and I feel so anxious. I noticed that the underside of my right breast was flat over the weekend and when I looked close I realised it was a rather large indentation (probably about 3 inches across). There was also some strange texture which could be cellulite or stretch marks that I hadn't noticed before. The GP examined me on Monday and she could see it too and agreed that I looked strange (always nice to hear when someone is looking at you topless lol). She examined my left breast first as she wanted to compare it to the 'normal' one but she actually found a lump in my left breast. So I have a lump in my left breast (now I know what to feel for, it feels about the size of an avacado seed) and an indentation on my right breast. I'm trying not to worry, I'm only 27 and I know it's very unlikely to be anything to worry about but I'm but so anxious.

A few years ago I had a regular smear test that came back with abnormal results. I went for a biopsy and they found pre-cancerous cells (Grade 2) and I had to have loop treatment. They also found grade 3 cells when they sent the removed tissue to the lab and since then I've had clear margins.

I know people say not to worry but I just feel like the last time I waited for something like this and told myself there was nothing to worry about...there was something to worry about.

With Covid I know everything is taking so much longer and I completely understand but I can't stop worrying about it.

I know the lump can be explained away by non cancerous things but the indentation is so strange and I can't find any answers on Google for what else it could be.

Clare I'm so glad that you've had a positive outcome, reading this thread has made me feel more hopeful xxx

  • Hi Have you had any update?

My sister had recently found a dent on the side of her breast, she also has had treatment for pre cancer cells for cervical cancer.

    I hope all is well.

  • Hello. Have you had an update on this? You have talk all the words out my mouth, and it feels like my story. I also have a dent on my areola, at the bottom. I also have the hole and missing tissue. I have also been refered as urgent. How did your test go? X

  • Hello there. I just wanted to post for any ladies frantically Googling this symptom that I had the same issue. I am 47, run frequently despite being obese and have large 38HH breasts and the right developed when seemed like a dent at the bottom and when I prodded it there seemed like there was nothing (a breast tissue hole) behind it. I just came back from the breast clinic and the doctor told me, after an ultrasound, it was to do with leaking ducts which is all perfectly normal. A mammogram afterwards showed my breasts were fine.

It was a message in this group from another woman who had an indent in her breast and found out she was fine that has stopped me going insane over the the last 3 week wait. So I hope this message helps reassure someone else. Do get any kind of indent/crease/dip or dent checked but it doesn't necessarily mean the big C. Xxx

  • Hi - I found this post a couple of weeks ago when I was frantically googling for reassurance about a dent I'd found in the lower side of my breast. I could see a shadow a couple of inches long and could feel a dent which disappeared altogether when I raised my arm. I got it checked out pretty quickly, everyone at the clinic was lovely and definitely agreed that I was right to get it checked and after a mammogram and ultrasound they told me there was nothing at all to see. I hope this might give some reassurance to anyone going through the same thing and give you some comfort that a dent isn't always a sign of cancer. But please do get any changes at all checked out - the consultants and radiographers will be lovely and hopefully you'll get good news too x

  • Hi

This is so reassuring to read, like yourself I have been frantically reading through here worrying myself sick as I also found a indentation on my right breast this morning. Called doctor but obviously no appointments today. It is a relief now to read a good few comments with similar symptoms to myself turn out not to be cancer related. Keeping fingers crossed mines will be the same outcome. Thanks for sharing your experience  it has helped.

Positive thinking now till I get it checked out.

  • I've just found a hole under my left nipple too. If I touch my nipple it actually goes back into the hole. Doctors for tmo I think. I'm worried now.

  • I've just found a indent in my areola, under my left nipple. I'm also worried, how did you go with your?
