    Hi Deefor,

    Thank you again.

  • Hi all, thought I'd post to keep the thread going...

3 more sleeps, and then I know what I'm dealing with.

I found a kind of peace at the weekend...I've come to realise that I push myself far too much, try to squeeze too much in...some of this is owing to being a single parent, and I want to be sure that my boys have the very best opportunities that I can give them, and that takes a little bit extra out of me from time to time, and so I've reflected, and changed things a little...

caffeine - I would easily drink 7 cups of coffee per day, I've reduce this to 3, and filled the rest with beautiful (caffeine free) herbals

bedtime - I've been more strict, to avoid crashing out of the sofa exhausted to only wake at 2am...I still wake at 2am, but I only have to read a page of a book and then turn over

fitness - I had to take a little break after the biopsies - the brushing was so bad, and the recommendation was to not run owing to the possibility of internal bleeding- this has been the hardest - running / exercise is my stress buster...but it will come back

for anyone who's reading this and waiting for results, be at peace - today, tomorrow, take comfort from friends - please share your worries, it will help, there are wonderful, courageous individuals on here...they / I will always listen.

    3 more sleeps...

    HI Deefor,

I'm so glad to hear that you've done a little self-appraisal and decided to make a few changes. It's never easy being a single parent. What ages are the boys? However, one thing missing from your changes is to be a little kinder to yourself and, don't push yourself too much. It is only natural that you want the best for your boys, but you need to look after yourself too.

It won't be long before you can get back to running again. I'm sure that you are missing it at the moment.  Only 3 more sleeps? You're almost there. I hope that it all works out well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

hope you have had a good week.

so whilst I wait for the final tests to be returned, I met with my surgeon yesterday. I have Breast Cancer, stage 2, the surgery is booked, unless the results come back on Monday for something else (in think triple neg/HER something - I don't know I couldn't take it all in yesterday) and if they come back positive it will be chemo first.

his given the overview for the year ahead, and both he and I have decided to brisk it down into 3 week chunks - that way I can face each three weeks with full knowledge of what I should do at that moment.

not much else to say, is there -  you've been there, and are strong and amazing, no doubt at times you didn't feel strong - so, be seeing you more often on here, probably.

    take care, for now

    stay amazing x

    Hi Deefor,

I am so sorry to hear this. Welcome to the club that nobody wants to join. I presume that you meant that your cancer is grade 2? Staging isn't done unil after surgery. It is so difficult to take everything in along with the shock of a positive diagnosis.

HER 2 is a protein which stimulates the growth of cancer. About 1 in 5 breast cancers have a higher than normal level of HER2 on the cell surface. If your cancer is HER2 positive you will usually be advised to have chemo and a drug or drugs known as targeted therapies. If you are diagnosed as HER2 negative, then targeted therapies given to HER2 positive breast cancer will not be of any benefit.

Triple negative breast cancer occurs when breast cancer tests negative for progesterone, oestrogen and HER2 receptors. This means that targeted therapy and hormone therapy drugs will not be of any benefit. Triple negative cancer can be treated by surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy (either before or after surgery) and sometimes bisphosphonates. About 15% of people with invasive breast cancer have triple negative breast cancer. (Breast Care Cancer UK).

Next time you see your surgeon ask him about this. Did you take someone with you to your appointment? It is always a good idea to do this, particularly if you expect to get any test results. It can also be helpul to write down a list of any questions you have.

I expect that you will feel anxious about your treatment but relieved to at last have a diagnosis and happier now that you are moving forward with treatment. There were certainly times when I felt frightened and nervous and was an absolute mess. I have had 10 years to come to terms with this and, still have darker days, but it is so much easier to deal with when one has a more positive viewpoint.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

thank you for your reply, yes the club that nobody wants to join, but as many per many clubs, it is built on a common goal, aspiration, inspiration and friendship.

so much to take in, and I thought I'd just take a little time over this weekend to be 'normal' whilst it sinks in, it'll be a long road ahead.

we are all very fortunate to have also found you here....you understand the importance to know that someone is listening who completely understands the thoughts and feelings that are being experienced.

i guess I'll start a feed on the newly diagnosed section, hope to see you there x

    Hi Deefor,

Yes, it will be a long road ahead, but you will find the strength to get through and, this time next year it will all be behind you.

This a good place to come for support from others who fully understand what you are gong through - no platitudes from friends and relations, telling you that all will be fine. If you want to know something, there is always someone here who has experienced whatever it is, so hang on in there. We are all right here to help you through this.

I'll certainly look out for you on the newly diagnosed section. There are a number of ladies here with triple negative, so you might get a better response if you include this in your new title.

I hope that you are managing to achieve 'normality' this weekend despite the foul weather.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine, thank you for your reply, waiting for this (current) last lot of tests is not as stressful, knowing that things will progress.

hope all is well with you in the weather too...only a couple of fence panels gone

    See you soon

  • Hi Deefor.

i too was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on the 28th jan. I am scheduled in for a lumpectomy on Thursday and removal of sentinel node. Then I will have to wait 3 weeks for more results from that and onto chemotherapy.do you have a treatment plan yet?
