Is CT scan and MRI straight after colonoscopy normal?

Hello,

I'm a 41 year old male whose father and parternal grandfather both died of bowel cancer at 65 and 62.

I've been passing blood routinely for some time and the local GP blood tests showed no untoward signs and didn't seem keen to engage further.

After several occasions of haemorraging blood over the last few months I had a private medical consultation who advised he thought it was likely just haemmoroids.

I've just had a colonoscopy this morning and good news there were no haemmoroids but they did discover a 30mm polypoid lesion in the lower area which was described as friable.

They have taken biopsies and immediately booked me in for an MRI and CT scan.

Should I be worried?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

  • Hi [@Rich03]‍
I wondered if you, or anyone else here, has any exprience of this and can advise.
I had a sigmoidoscopy last weekend. The endoscopist said all looked good and diagnosed haemerrhoid and skin tag. Her report said the same - diagnosis haemorrhoid and skin tag, follow-up - refer back to consultant. However, I got an appointment through 2 days later for an urgent pelvic MRI. I rang up the MRI departement to query it, they looked up the referral and said it came from a bowel consultant to get a closer look at the haemorrhoids (Which I thought was odd, as if it's only haemorrhoids, why would they need to do it urgently?) a couple of days later, a letter arrived telling me I would have an MRI scan soon due to "Rectal mass and abdominal pain" which I haven't got? I've never had any abdominal pain and I didn't realise a haemorrhoid was a rectal mass? On the letter was a phone number to the bowel support nurse, so I rang it to query. She said the referral has been made to 'check for polyps' so now I have 3 different reasons for the MRI - to look at haemorrhoids, due to a rectal mass and to look for polyps. I am so confused and worried. Could it be something sinister and the different explanations are being given to try to reassure me when really they're concerned?
I'm 39. Felt a lump 'down there' in January and was treated for haemorrhoids but it didn't go away hence them referring me for sigmoidoscopy. No bleeding, no pain, no weightloss.
