Breast clinic referral fears

I guess I'm looking for anyone with similar symptoms to myself having had an urgent referral to the breast clinic, by my GP this morning.

I've had tender breasts for weeks, but noticed it was far more on the left side. The right is back to normal. The left has a nugget type lump just above the areola. The areola is now darker and sunken in. It's sore and a bit itchy.

Has anyone experienced this, or struggling with the awful wait? Urgent apps. are 2 weeks wait, but they do all tests in one day and can give biopsy results on the day. I think this is quite good. The worry is tough, especially as I'm a lone parent with a 7 year old.

  • Hi Jolamine great news about your brain scan . I don't have to back for any more checkups they are leaving the lump alone. Will keep up with the self examinations once a month and if I find anything else will get back in touch. My regular screening mammogram will start in about 2 years time when I am 50. My goal this year is to try and get down to my ideal weight I have over three stone to loose. All the best for the future and thank u for all your support. Lesley

    Hi Lesley,

I am glad to hear that you don't need any further investigation or treatment. I am sure that this scare will have made you more breast aware and, hope that you don't discover anything else. It will be a little more reassuring for you when you start having regular mammograms.

It is never easy to lose weight. I put on a tremendous amount of weight with hormone treatment. I have managed to lose 5 stones but still have another 3 to go. I have stuck at this for the past year, so will need to get a little stricter with myself again. I hope that you manage to attain your goal too. You'll feel a lot better if you do.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Yes it will help a lot if I loose the weight. I have an underactive thyroid  which makes it a bit harder but it will help a lot with my arthritis. Cutting down the junk food and increasing fruit and veg and cycling and swimming more is the plan and going out metal  Detecting more as well. All the best Lesley

    Hi Lesley,

It will be especially difficult for you to lose weight if you are Hypothyroid. However, it sounds as if you are going about it the right way. Sensible eating and exercise will eventually bring it down. You never know, you may even find some Viking artifacts whilst doing that extra metal detecting!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Viking would be amazing since I have some Scandinavian DNA from Norway Sweden and  Iceland. My great granny was from Shetland and my 3× great granny was from Faroe Islands. You just never know. Will keep you update  if I find anything interesting. All the best Lesley
