Symptoms?

Hi everyone,

New to this forum but desperately need to pick brains over actual experiences of symptoms. Internet is telling me all the physical symptoms but very broadly. What symptoms did you guys have that made you decide to go and see a GP? I’m having irregular and unusual bleeding, pain in lower abdomen, can’t seem to hold on to my urine very well and feel completely washed out and tired all the time. I’m 35 so not menopausal and cervical screening from last Dec came back clear.

Any experiences of signs and symptoms appreciated xx

  • Hi Caz

I had virtually constant low down pelvic pain when I went to the doctor-on the maximum amount of paracetamol every day. I don’t want to scare you because there are so many reasons for similar symptoms, but I was diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer last year. I completed all my treatment at Christmas and have had good checkups and a clear scan since then-no evidence of disease. Please don’t worry that this will be anything like you! xx

  • Oh that’s fantastic news, I’m so glad to hear you’re doing ok, I wish you luck for the future.

No it doesn’t scare me, and I realise there could be a whole host of other possibilities. I guess when the GP tells you they need to check for cancer, our minds go into overdrive, try as we might not to worry.

Do the biopsies take long to perform? How long did you need to wait for results? xx

  • Hi Caz

    Thank you!

I had punch biopsies straight after the hysteroscopy and it didn’t take long to do. He couldn’t get a good view with the camera because I was bleeding, but he went on to do the biopsies and it was over quite quickly. I was told to come back a week later for my results, but I think that’s because my tumour was visible and he was sure it was cancer so it was all processed quickly.

I’m glad I haven’t scared you...I always try to tread gently when new people come on with questions who haven’t had a diagnosis. What kind of scan are you having and where are you being biopsied? Is it your womb? xx

  • Ahh of course your symptoms deserve worry - it’s only natural to be concerned and when your GP refers you you automatically start over-thinking. We’ve all done it. But as others have said it could be a number of things and we all experience different symptoms. Some people have absolutely no symptoms.

Haw! Yeah, I thought you might have meant hysteroscopy!

Well I went to local hospital this afternoon for pre-op all very straightforward then I go to the hospital on Friday for the hysteroscopy and loop and possible laparoscopy.  I don’t know how long the results will take though or if I’ll find anything out on the day.. the nurse did say today they get at least one lady a week referred for hysteroscopy with General Anaesthetic as it’s too painful for them. You might be absolutely fine. They say take painkillers before you go.

Please keep in touch. I know it sounds awful but it’s good to know you’re not alone in all this and it’s good to get things off your chest xx

  • Yes, a biopsy from the womb and I think she said a transvaginal scan?

Ok so it all sounds pretty quick and straight forward so that’s good, I’d rather they just get it over and done with and take all the images and samples they need in one go!

Are you able to take someone with you or is it all very sterile and formal? xx

  • Ok, so again it all sounds pretty swift and straight to the point. I’m guessing the worst of it is going to be the waiting!

Yes I agree 100%, could be one of a hundred things, we’ll just wait and see. Will take some painkillers before I go and maybe some calms!

Best of luck for the hospital, is it tomorrow you go or next Fri? I hope they can give you some kind of info regarding diagnosis straight away so you’re not waiting. Fingers crossed for you, let me know how it goes xx

  • Hi Caz

I was the same-I told the gynaecologist to do as much as he could in one appointment no matter what he had to do! I just wanted it over all in one go.

I found at my hospitals-I went to 2 different ones-that they encourage you to have someone with you. My partner didn’t come into the actual room when I was being examined but waited outside. I bled a lot so was glad to be driven home! I found it very informal in the sense that one nurse held my hand the whole time, chatting away to distract me, and when I was apologising for all the bleeding she was just laughing saying it was no problem and they’d seen it all before. I found they made me as comfortable as possible and were really lovely. Hope you find the same. xx

  • Hiya,

I'm sure you probably won't see this now but I was just wondering if you ever got a diagnosis for this?
