Worried thickening of womb

hi everyone,

I’m new to posting on here but have read the forum for a while which has really helped me over the last few months.

I have always had issues with my periods- very heavy, none at all, passing clots, irregular bleeding from a young age. I had been on Cerezette mini pill to try to help these symptoms and for contraceptive purposes.

went to the GP in Jan after having extreme pelvic pain, feeling of heaviness and as I had been having irregular bleeding or mostly clotted discharge. (I usually have no bleeding on POP)I have also been getting excruciating back pain and hip pain (worst before bleeding or discharge)

I was sent for a ultrasound and was told that it had shown a mass in my uterus (possibly a polyp) so was scheduled for a hysteroscopy, possible removal of mass and D&C to obtain biopsy.

had this procedure done yesterday (I was sent to private hospital via NHS as they couldn’t meet waiting time deadline!

the surgeon spoke to me after waking up from anaesthetic. He said there was no mass but I had significant thickening of the endometrial lining. He said that as it was so thick it would have been mistaken on scan as mass/polyp. He told me he removed some of the thickening and has sent for biopsy. He said everything else looked okay but asked me when I was thinking of having a baby, which I though was odd or maybe alarming. I am 34 and have no children. I am really worried that the thickening May suggest cancer and I am paranoid that he was asking about having kids. Anyone else has similar experiences?

Im also worried as my pill was progesterone only therefore if anything should prevent thickening of the womb!!

Thanks x

  • Everything is a waiting game i'm affraid, absolute nightmare all the waiting.

I was a right mess going through my investigations.

A CT for something else found the thickening by chance. I had to go for biopsies taking first, they gave me an appointment for 2 weeks after to go for the results.... a few days later I got a telephone call telling me to go in the next day, so you can imagine what a state I was in. When I got there first thing I was told was... biopsies were fine and they wanted to do camera to be 100% everything was ok.

    WHY do they do this....

Good luck, ask to be put to sleep if you prefer.

  • Oh no hope ur ok now? I've had a colonoscopy as well, I asked to be put asleep, they have diagnosed me with IBS. So IBS, anaemia and now will have to wait and see what they say. I've put loads off weight on and struggle to keep it off because of my condition, it's so depressing. Even if I climb up the stairs my heart rate goes up so fast, I'm all out of breath. Wish they find the underlying cause.

  • Hi

My cancer was bowel so I have colonoscopies yearly now.

They saw the thickening of womb lining during a routine CT so had to be investigated.

Your fast heart rate could be to do with your anaemia. Have they done a CT?

As far as I know I'm ok thank you apart from the anxiety my health has thrown at me.

  • Hi im on similar situation 37 years old heavy period and shorter cycle ,I wanted to ask the mass that they saw on scan do you remember was it like on size,  i was told mine is echopoor heterogenous area measuring 3cm x 1.4 wait for biopsy appointment they though it was polyp but no polyps were seen in scan and there is increased vascularity in the endometrium

  • Hi I am 51 year old and I had a ultrasound on the 7th March so scared waiting for my results and had letter yesterday saying I have a slightly irregular thickened endometrium but I had a endometrial ablation about 2 years ago so I have to go for a hysterectomy so they can assess the lining of the womb because it says they will not be able to rule out any possibility of change that may have the patential to turn into cancer or cancer of the womb I am so worried about this and feel sick every time I think about it and all I'm doing is thinking all the time my head is all over the place

  • Like a previous post I am a lot older and a benign fibroid partly removed he could fully detach it but I'm pretty sure I passed it now 18 months later I'm having short heavy periods but they don't last long a scan showed a thin white line at the top of my womb where the fibroid had been I'm having a biopsy in the next few days and really worried it comes back abnormal doubly worried because when trying to remove the fibroid he perforated my bowel leaving me with a permanent stoma. Can anyone give any positive vibes please

  • Please do not be scared (I know its a big ask)! The person who rang you is not medically qualified, she will be a receptionist/secretary/in the apointments office...they are basically there to make appointments and not supposed to give advice. She cannot discuss your results 'over the phone' because she probably does not have them! Its possible they have had someone cancel and have given you that appointment. I would look at it as a positive in that you are getting medical treatment earlier rather than later. Good luck! x

  • Thankyou Ben, Just may do that but not today...sometimes you can only take so much!!

  • Hello. So I went for a hysteroscopy today. I have had CT scans for thorax which led to abdominal, bowel and consequently womb. I started HRT 5 months ago. Ultrasound showed thickened lining of 7mm. Was told camera results looked ok but biopsy was being sent for urgent results. Naturally panicking. I had a heavy bleed 3 months into HRT and my doc changed what I am taking . Consultant today said it could be due to HRT even after just five months. There was just something int he way he said urgent that really bothered me. I am a baby to be fair and worried that it's going to be cancer and will need hysterectomy. I can't face general anesthetiser as have major panic attacks . Any thoughts or advice would be really welcome. Thank you

  • Hi Curlykerry and welcome to the forum.

I can see you were hoping to get some advice from Lloydie. I've just checked their profile and can see the last time they were on the forum was back in August last year so there's a chance you may not hear back from them.

I really hope that won't be the case but if they don't get back to you, do feel free to start your own discussion or reach out to our members on more recent threads.

You're also welcome to discuss your situation with our team of cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable and will do all they can to answer any questions you may have and put your mind at ease.

    Kind regards,
