Low grade fever for 3 weeks that isn't an infection

18/M

I've been suffering from a low grade fever of around 37.3C to 37.5C for the past few weeks.  I've been to a GP and at first he told me it was anxiety and gave me some meds. I didn't get much better so I went to the GP again, who gave me some different meds, and after taking those, everything but the fever was pretty much fixed, aside from some occasional aching and headaches. I went to the GP again today, and he tweaked the meds again, but still doesn't really know why I still have a fever.  I had a CBC blood test, and the results came out fine, and the GP says the blood test shows I don't have inflammation.

I've taken even more meds and the fever still hasn't broken yet, it hasn't gotten any worse or any better.  I also occasionally feel light headed, and my muscles often twitch, but that could be because of the medicine that's supposed to make you fatigued.

I'm getting really worried becuase I still don't know where the fever is coming from, all I know is it isn't from an infection, which is freaking me out even more because i'd rather get an infection since they're easy to treat.  I'm thinking that i've gotten cancer and I don't know what to do.  I don't know if I should schedule another appointment with the GP or like get a full body MRI scan to make sure I don't have any tumors.

  • Hi,

sorry to jump on this post but I have been feeling the same symptoms for the past couple of months. Been going in and out of the doctors to see what is wrong with me but no answers. Everything is coming back normal which is good but doesn't explain the persistent low grade fevers.

I am now pregnant and it's really worrying me about how it'll affect the baby. Spoke to the GP and said there's nothing to worry about. But I've not felt normal in months and it's starting to really affect my life.

has anyones symptoms eased and gotten better or has anyone figured out what would be causing low grade fevers?

  • Hello guys,

I am also suffering with low grade fever at the beginning it was mostly between 37.4 - 37.7 . It all started as a flu. (Normally my temperature goes down at night sometimes even 36.9)

I am on the 3rd month with temperature and I basically don't have the flu symptoms anymore.
I am currently only feeling weak and I feel when the temperature is high because I'm either shivering or just feeling my face is burning, no other symptoms except when I touch my stomach and belly I feel a bit of pain mostly left side down my belly)

i had to go to my country as I was in the GP (for flu symptoms) I was on 4 different antibiotics plus steroids and my temperature was not going back to normal even after all this medications. In the emergency they've done blood tests CBC and inflammatory blood tests, all came back normal.

After I went back to my country I have been soon sent to see an infectionist which sent me to do many blood tests. I've tested for STI including HIV, toxoplasmosis, ebbstein Barr, Citomegalovirus also done a throat CT and chest X-ray etc all came back fine.

then I was sent to see a reumatologist for autoimune diseases, all tests came back fine.

then I was sent to see a gastroenterologist, he send me to do the FIT test, which was way above the normal range (double) and Clostridium Diff. I first tested Positive for Clostridium GDH.
the doctor then send me to do the mononuclear test for Clostridium, and it came back positive.

I started the treatment, I was first prescribed 10 days of 125mg Vancomycin, my temperature only started to get to 37.0-36.9 in day 9 and 10.
then the doctor changed my medication to Rifimaxin 3 times a day 2 pills, on the first 2 days my temperature stayed 37.1-37.0; on day 3 my temperature started to raise again. I was so scared, I called the doctor that evening and changed my treatment with Metronizadol 3 times a day. My temperature stayed between 37.2-37.4 and on day 6 my temperature started to raise again

I am on Vancomycin again, waiting to get the colonoscopy.

i am also considering to ask the doctors for a recommendation for a full CT/MRI.

please let me know if anyone found the cause of the persistent temperature.
