Going Private for diagnosis, is it easy to go back to NHS?

Hi, lump in my breast (possible re-occurance of my breast cancer) and Have had 2 collapses which they think may be heart related.  Still waiting for referral by GP for the heart and could not even get in to see the GP for the breast scare.  So paid for private consultation at the local private hospital.  My cancer one is on Monday 29th, but the heart one is tomorrow.

We dont have much savings, but just felt it was important, my husband is disabled and relies on me for all things.

Has anyone done something similar and if so, can you be put back on to the NHS and if so how is that done and who does it as I dont think we will be able to afford treatments

Can anyone help me on this

Sheila

  • I know this post was back in September but was wondering if anyone had advice as Iv had mixed answers. I was having pain in the top left hand side of my left breast it would go away and then come back at first but then it was more frequent. I'm a nurse but couldn't be seen by my GP so actually paid privately to see a breast consultant at my local private hospital two days before Christmas. She checked me over and said she new I was in pain but that she couldn't feel anything sinister and that she thought it might be muscular. She told me I'd be wasting my time and money  paying for a mammogram as she was sure it would come back clear. However Christmas and new year has passed and I received a letter from the NHS saying I was referred by this private consultant to her clinic in the NHS on the NHS for a Mammogram and possible tissue extraction is this common ???? Because now I'm worried sick that I haven't been told the truth that in fact I actually have something wrong with me. I tried to get a hold of her through the private hospital and through the nhs appointment line but have got no where has anyone experienced this before ??? I have another 2 weeks to wait and I'm already not sleeping and worrying
