Breast cancer biopsy. Need a second one...feeling anxious.

I had a routine mammogram and was called for a second mammogram on Monday 25th March, it showed a small area of suspicious microcalcifications and so I had a fine needle biopsy.

They called yesterday with the results and I was told it was inconclusive although they do suspect there are cancerous cells and so I have to go back next week for a vacuum assisted biopsy. They said they will test the lymph nodes in my armpit too, this now has me terrified as I cannot feel any lumps and did not expect things to seem so bad.

On top of this, today the breast I had the biopsy in is feeling achy and is a little swollen, is this common after a biopsy? I did have to stay in the mammogram machine for about 30 minutes whilst they did the biopsy due to the small area of microcalcifications. I think the ache and slight swelling is causing me to fear things are much worse but just wondering if anybody has had similar experiences.

Your chats do help me to stay calm, but today I did begin to feel so anxious and cried for the first time.

Hope to hear from somebody

  • Hi MCpep

I am so sad your experiencing this anxious time it's honestly the worst time I hated it.

I have had core biopsy done on my breast lump and lymph nodes and I was sore and swollen for a while after.

We are all here for you.

I am so glad I went to the GP when I did so I'm so glad your having it investigated.

All my love and best wishes

  • Thanks for the reply, as I keep reading it is the waiting and not knowing that is a nightmare. My imagination is running wild. Once I get my diagnosis and a plan it will definitely be better, even if it’s not what I want to hear at least there will be a way forward.

Not got chest pain it really is just a niggly pain every now and again in my breast and a slight swelling but do think it is probably due to biopsy and being squeezed into the machine for about 30 minutes.

Onwards and upwards determined to stay positive.

    How are you now?

  • I had a 5 hour chemo infusion today abs my brain us playing tricks on me and I read about chest pains on so.eine else and out it while I replied 2 u so sorry.

Itsbtue waiting not knowing and the constant wondering.

I found a lump and didn't thi k anything off it really but got it checked and was diagnosed with stage 3 grade 3 metastatic breast cancer, it's only metastatic due to spread to lymph nodes so thankful of that, being only 30 I never imagined I would have it.

Now I have a treatment plan and within treatment 5 chemotherapy done things are so so so much easier.

I pray they have got it all wrong and its not cancerous xx

  • Not a problem. I hope they are wrong but am preparing for the worst and I am sure like everybody else, feel I can cope if it has not spread.

I wish you well with your treatment and will look forward to chatting again.

    Stay strong and positive.

    Best wishes x

  • Your welcome please keep me updated xx

  • Hey lovely.

So sorry about your experience. Going through the exact same thing. My second biopsy is on Tuesday. Guess it’s better to be safe than sorry. I never had a lump thatmad me contact my GP, my left breast bruised over night.

Thinking about yoy. Will all be ok. Xx

  • Hi ive had two biopsies on Thursday.  I too was in the mammogram machine for a long time.  I have to wait till next Thursday for my results.  Yes i was very sore once numbness went but, my breast was sore and swollen although today is abit sore but more uncomfortable.  Its better them to do all test to find out if anything is wrong.  It's best to try to be positive and time comes and things arent as we hope for we find out options then. Good luck i hope all goes well :)

  • Sorry you are in the same situation but in some way a comfort to know there are others experiencing the same things.

I have had a lovely busy weekend and feeling more positive about things.

Wishing you all the best for Tuesday, keep me updated, I will not get my results until Wednesday 10th.

    xx

  • Hi, thanks for your reply it helps to hear from others in similar positions. Sorry to hear of your soreness and hope you are feeling better.

You are right it is good that we are having all of the testing, it is better to know what it is and then deal with whatever is required going forward.

I hope your results are good on Thursday, please let me know, I have to wait until Wednesday 10th for mine.

Staying positive and still smiling xx

  • Thanks for your reply yes I find it good to hear from a similar situation.  It has left me  all out of sorts but, I'd say part of it's due to me having Fibromyalgia and a few things that go with  it.

I'd rather they do all needed than be left in doubting them.   Not gonna lie I wish Thursday was over as anything unknown makes us anxious.

I will let you know my results on Thursday and Good luck with yours  on Wednesday the 10th please us let me know yours.

I hope natat also gets positive results on Tuesday

I'm staying positive too and smiling
