Found a lump in my breast.

Hi,

Im 23 years old. Just wanting some reassurance more than anything. Well about the beginning of January I started getting sore boobs I presumed it was to do with the ortho evra contraceptive patch I have been on it since August 2016. Last year felt a lump but the doctor said it was fatty tissue and it went away boobs also felt heavy as if I was pregnant if that makes any sense. Then 4 days ago I felt a lump (happend to find it as I had my arm up) in my right breast sore to touch if I wear a bra as its pressing on the lump, also my nipples were super sensitive couldnt touch as it was sore, it feels different to how it did last year. I went to the doctors and she comfirmed it was a lump and she said she will try and refer me to the breast clinic but because of my age I may not be able to. My corncern is not really cancer as I know 9/10 it isnt breast cancer but I am worried because I think I may of had the lump since January 2019 keeping wondering what it could be? Just wondering has anybody been anything similar and if so what was the outcome.

  • thanks! Starting to get nervous now! Not sure if this is something anyone can answer but my arm is quite sore around where lump is and starting to think thats a bad sign although somethings i have read say pain does not mean sinister in all cases. It hard to describe it not pain as such but lump sometimes feels a bit stingy and it kinda like a dull ache around it. Anyway not long to go thank god! Think im doing everyone’s head in with my worries. Xxx

  • I have the weird arm ache (stingy) feeling too. What is that?

I have my biopsy results this Friday (fingers crossed) I had my biopsy yesterday.

you will be absolutely fine xx

  • let me know how you get on [@dwood]‍ yeah it is weird. The first GP i saw back in November said my lump was likely to be a blocked sweat gland. It is a weird feeling and like a dull ache. Fingers crossed for good results on Friday xx

  • Thank you [@Murph77]‍. I really wish I knew what the ache was all about.

Let me know how you get on too. Everything will be fine xx

  • Finally had a letter come this morning about my appointment although its going to be a long wait (26th march) im glad theres a date insight

Just wondering how long generally do the appointments last it said on my letter up to 4 hours?

    Thanks

  • It could be something like an abscess hun, those are usually sore and make pain go further past the point of the lump itself, and they are very common in the armpit area. Or it could be a cyst, those can be painful too.

Let me know how you get on today,

    Lots of love,

    Alexia xxx

  • I'm so glad you've had your letter through. At least now you have a date to focus on getting all this done!

4 hours is probably just to pre warn you of clinical delays, and that there may be a wait at the breast imaging, dependant on what they want done for you. It will most likely be an ultrasound scan, as the mammograms dont work on us under the age. And then they may take a biopsy, and that can take a little while as they have to ensure they've collected enough tissue to count as a sample, and dependant on where your lump is, if its deep etc. It may take them longer to decide where is best to insert the biopsy needle etc. The consultants are usually running behind, they always seem to be when we go there, but when my mum got diagnosed with breast cancer, I think they didn't quite know how to move us out of the room because we were crying so much! So you have to take that into account, that some people will be receiving news and results they wish they didn't have to and that can cause delays.

I hope you're not there for 4 hours, it's a long time. And I hope you take someone along with you. Let us know how you get on,

    Lots of love,

    Alexia xxxx

  • i will do! Thanks hun. Fingers crossed xxx
