Blood/mucus stool

Hi

For tge past 8 months ive had blood and mucus in stools, i went to the docs and they said IBS, tge symptoms persisted so i went back, they took blood tests which were all normal, a stool test which said i had high calproctin levels (1200) so gp said i had suspected IBD, i have a colonoscopy appt in 2 weeks. Obviously no one can diagnose other than the docs after colonoscopy but im freaking out and expecting the worst! Has anyone else had anything similar? I have absolutely so other symptoms just mucus at rhe top of stool (first bit to come out) then blood on the outside sometimes quite a bit sometimes barely any and thats it but it has been every stool apart from maybe 5 in total for the last 8 months! Maybe a slight niggle in left lower side of stomach occasionally right but nothing major at all.

No family history, no weight loss, no tiredness, bowel habbits normal, no pain, no other symptoms, just an increase in anxiety!

Thanks for reading

  • I actually looked up re just mucus and it can be associated with so many things . IBS, fissures, proctitis, crohns, infections, ulcers, food intolerance etc etc !

Thanks I will stay in touch. Happy weekend all! X

  • Thank you for checking for me. That is so kind. I'll wait for the removal of the polyps and see how I go

    have a good weekend

  • Morning

When will you have the polyps removed do you know? Hope your symptoms aren't too bad?

Fourth day running and no blood! I'm optimistic. I just dropped the samples off so will wait and see.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, weather was really nice, I needed that for sure! :-)

  • Hi I'm so glad there is no blood. What a relief for you. They want me to go in next week but the problem is the hospital is in the area where the new variant has been discovered. After loosing dad to covid I'm reluctant to go because I'm scared. I have a week to think about it. I might prepare for it, have my covid test etc and see

be positive lovey and let us know your results

  • Its so helpful being able to read through other peoples experiences, I'm waiting for colonoscopy and extremely anxious about it all.

My stools have always been changeable, but after completing FIT test and before I got the result I got awful stomach pain, undigested food in faeces, what looks like red pepper etc... in there.

It has also been a painful to pee, I can rationally tell myself some of these COULD be due to anxiety but I know they might not be.

For a few days I have had what feels like a stitch in a very specific spot in my lower left abdomen.

I'm also worried I'll need to self isolate before colonoscopy which could delay things even more.

  • Yes it's good news but won't rest properly till I have had results (I guess that's a normal feeling).

Sorry to hear about your dad. I understand your reluctance to go in. I agree, just think about it.

Thanks so much for your support

  • Hi there

I understand you are anxious about your colonoscopy. I haven't ever had this procedure, I hope someone else can reply re this.
I agree it's helpful to read through this forum.

I think some things we eat are not digestible. I had terribly tummy pain due to H pylori so I know it's not nice at all. I believe anxiety can play a big part in many things which is really frustrating and you are anxious because of your colonoscopy.

I am always here for a chat. Everyone on here is so friendly and supportive.

  • Hi thanks for getting back to me

I've had the colonoscopy procedure but they could get the polyps off so they want me to go back. I'm more worried about the covid threat than the procedure. I have no blood either now but tummy pains when I eat sometimes or if windy. Honestly I think the stress over the year didn't help but let's see what happens

    thanks for the support

  • I have received my second Calprotectin result today and its very high of 3305! I am just slightly nervous of what's to follow, has anyone else had similar levels?

    Thanks

  • Hi, I wasn't sure what that was. I've since checked. I have never had that . Don't worry we are here to help you through anything. I wish I could help you more, but I am here if you need to chat
