Breast lump with dull arm ache... is this normal?

Hi everyone,

This forum has been really helpful to me from finding a lump to having my appointment and needle biopsy. My question that i have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, has anyone else experienced a horrible dull ache in the arm that is the same side as the lump? This has been happening more over the last two weeks and I also get the same dull ache in my lower leg on the same side. Also (probably has nothing to do with it) but a weak feeling and heavy feeling at the back/base of my head. I’m trying not to look too much into it but as its all the same side as the lump, I’m starting to panic. They said biopsy results should be 2-3 weeks. Will I find out sooner if it’s not good news? I’m 37 with 3 children and am finding it hard to act normal and not show I’m panicked about something x

  • Hi,

sorry to jump on this post but I just wondered how you got on? My symptoms are identical to yours. My breast, shoulder blade and arm have a constant dull ache. I have my appointment at the bread clinic on Wednesday but I’m out of my mind with worry. I can’t sleep or eat, I just keep thinking the worst. I’m absolutely terrified. I have two little boys aged 2 and 4 and I can’t stop thinking the worst outcome. I hope your results were good news.

    Love

  • Hi Claire,

it sounds like you are reacting the same as I did, I made myself sick with worry. I even got shingles the week after.so please try to calm down, although I know that is easier said than done.

I had my scan and it all turned out clear! They put the pain down to Fibro cystic changes. And the mass was due to hormones. If you are about to start your monthly cycle then you could be the same as me. As I started my cycle a couple of days after my scan.

I really hope you have good news! Please do let us know how you get on. Remember we are all here to support you and help you.

Try to stay positive and I’m surely your results will come back clear!

Good Luck and wishing you all the best

  • Hiya, I have the same problem and have my appointment next week. I hope your okay and your results were positive.

  • Hi ladies,

I'm in a similar situation at the moment. I discovered a lump on my left breast and a strain like feeling in my collarbone and shoulder down into my left arm. Was with my GP today and referring me to breast clinic. Hopefully won't be waiting too long for appointment.

It's such a worry. And the waiting is the hardest part.

This is my 2nd 'scare' , last time was just a small nodule under the skin and got the all clear.

    Fingers crossed for good news

  • Hi everyone,

Ive had a sharp shooting pain through my nipple and tenderness on my breast and what feels like my breast bone for about a week now. The shooting pains happen frequently but not constantly throughout the day. I am mid cycle so  felt concerned as I usually get sore breasts directly before my period.

I called the doctors and went for my appointment today, they’ve referred me to the breast clinic. I’m worried because I couldn’t feel any lumps myself (my breasts are naturally lumpy with quite pokey ribs underneath).

I still cannot feel any lumps different to the other boob or maybe I’m not feeling firmly enough as it’s quite painful. I’ve convinced myself I have Cancer already and it has spread to my bones, hence the dull ache in my arm and chest bone tenderness. It’s silly I know, have an appointment at clinic on 15th so eagerly await.

Im 33 and have been told cysts can be quite common 30 onwards.

I hope that everyone gets the all clear anyway. I will check back in as this forum has been the only helpful thing today to distract me and give me some hope whatever the outcome.

    Hi McFi,

    Welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms but glad to hear that you have already been referred to the breast clinic. You should be seen within the next two weeks.

Waiting is always the scary part, but only 1 person in 8 referred to the clinic will turn out to have breast cancer. I am glad to hear that your last 'scare' didn't show up anything untoward and, sincerely hope that this one is the same.

Do please let us know how you get on at the clinic. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi NikNak,

    Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to learn of your symptoms, but am glad to hear that you have already been referred to the breast clinic and, that you already have an appointment for 15th. Many ladies have lumpy breasts but do not have cancer, so let’s hope that you are one of these. Try not to keep feeling your breast, as you will only make it sorer.

It is perfectly normal to imagine the worst at this stage – we nearly all do. Fortunately this seldom turns out to be the case.

You will have some tests done when you attend and are likely to get a definite diagnosis 1-2 weeks after that. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thankyou Jolamine for your supportive words. Xx

  • Hi,

My wife has a lump in her breast and a pain in her left arm which varies through the day, we had the mammogram but not biopsy, should we be worried?

  • Had my appointment with breast clinic.

good news, the lump in my left breast was one of many cysts. The most noticeable one was inflamed and needed to be drained and I was put on an antibiotic, as soon as it was drained the pain and numbness in my shoulder/neck/arm disappeared.

I had mammogram and ultrasound and was given all clear. I was told that as hormones fluctuate and as I get older I may need to have cysts drained more often as the years go on.

    But great relief.
