Breast lump with dull arm ache... is this normal?

Hi everyone,

This forum has been really helpful to me from finding a lump to having my appointment and needle biopsy. My question that i have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, has anyone else experienced a horrible dull ache in the arm that is the same side as the lump? This has been happening more over the last two weeks and I also get the same dull ache in my lower leg on the same side. Also (probably has nothing to do with it) but a weak feeling and heavy feeling at the back/base of my head. I’m trying not to look too much into it but as its all the same side as the lump, I’m starting to panic. They said biopsy results should be 2-3 weeks. Will I find out sooner if it’s not good news? I’m 37 with 3 children and am finding it hard to act normal and not show I’m panicked about something x

  • I am experianceing the same thing. Although dull ache in my left arm onky started yesterday and feels tender when I clench my fist. I'm 26 and found a lump on my left breast 26th Feb. Awaiting my appoitment at the breast clinic which is next Friday 15th March. The wait is killing me so so anxious

    Hi Jessica,

I am so sorry to hear that you are waiting for your appointment at the breast clinic. I agree that waiting is always an anxious time Try to distract yourself from the wait by keeping yourself occupied with other things if you can. Some people have naturaly lumpy breasts and there is nothing untoward present. Here's hoping that you are one of these lucky people. We all tend to think the worst at this time, but only ! in every 10 referred will get a cancer diagnosis.

Try to stay clear of consulting 'Dr Google'. Much of the information here is either out of date or poorly researched and can be positively scary. You are lucky to get your appointment for 15th March. I had 2 excisional biopsies yesterday and have to wait 4-6 weeks for the results.

I shall be thinking of you on 15th and hope that it all goes well. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jessica, how was your apointment? I am going through something similar, I found a lump on my right breast and have had pain in armpoit on the same side.  I have my mammogram appointment at hospital next Wednesday. It is worrying and I have a 9 year old at home who I have not told as I do not want her to worry but  it is hard not to show your emotions!

    Hi VWilton,

Welcome to our community. I am so sorry to hear that you too are waiting to be seen at the breast clinic. This is always a worrying time, as there are so many possibilities and, we always seem to think the worst. Fortunately, this seldom turns out to be the case.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and have had pain in my armpit, but so far no lymph node involvment.

I hope that all goes well for you on Wednesday. Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I'm 17 and experiencing the same thing, I'm waiting to get my appointment from the breast clinic. I'm absolutely terrified.

    Hi Ren,

Welcome to our community, although I'm sorry for the reason that you've joined. You are young to be having this sort of trouble.

I am so sorry to hear that you are waiting for your appointment at the breast clinic. There are many reasons for breast pain, so I hope that yours is something simpler. Of all the people referred to the breast clinic, only 1 person in 10 will have cancer, so the odds are still stacked in your favour, even though you might not think so.

We are all terrified at this stage and, there is nothing to be scared of, unless you are the unfortunate one in 9. Even if you are, breast surgery treatment and after care has improved so much throughout the past few years. My mother had secondary breast cancer 21 years ago and sadly, she died from it. There is just no comparison between the treatment that I have had and that which she experienced.

We all tend to think the worst at this time, but fortunately, this seldom turns out to be the case.

I agree that waiting is always an anxious time. Many will tell you that it is one of the scariest parts of a cancer journey. Try to distract yourself from the wait by keeping yourself occupied with other things if you can. Some people have naturaly lumpy breasts and there is nothing untoward present. Here's hoping that you are one of these lucky people.

Try to stay clear of consulting 'Dr Google'. Much of the information here is either out of date or poorly researched and can be positively scary. Have you got your appointment yet?

I shall be thinking of you and hope that it all goes well. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hey I’m 19 currently going through exactly what you are I went to the gp yesterday she gave me some tablets for a skin infection but told me to come back straight away within 5 days to assign me to the breast clinic. I’m absolutely worried because I have multiple breast cancer symptoms it doesn’t seem to be just some skin infection and I doubt the gp thinks that too. I believe she’s ruling off all minor possibilities first. I am positive for h pylori and I believe sometimes it causes tumors in the breast some which are cancerous I had h pylori for over a year before I was diagnosed and treated with it however this makes me more so worried about the lump. not to mention I’m getting married in the summer so whatever this is I hope it clears fast!!!

    Hi FJ,

I am sorry to hear that you are in the same position as Ren.

Breast cancer is not normally painful when it is diagnosed, so I hope that yur GP is correct and that you only have an infection, which can be healed with the tablets she gave you. Even if you are referred to the breast clinic, this is nothing terrible. They usually run some simple tests to see if cancer is present. Fortunately, even at this stage only 1 person in 10 will end up with a positive diagnosis.

I wasn't aware that h pylori can lead to breast tumours, but hope that it doesn't in your case. It usually only takes up to 2 weeks to get an appointment at the breast clinic. It is unfortunate that you have this worry in the run up to your wedding, but you should have had all your tests behind you before your big day.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

I had my appt at the breast clinic and they could feel the lump but said its most likely a cyst and sent me on my way!! My arm pain and numbess got worse and have now been referred for an MRI to rule out MS, ky breast lump is still there, i have to go back in 6 months if it is still there

I hope all you ladies are keeping well, an absolute lifesaver to me at tough times! Xxx
