Armpit lump - not lymph node

Hi everyone I’m new here

I found a lump in my armpit / side left Breast area 6 weeks ago it’s not painful and feels pretty hard and maybe a small marble size.

i have also had some burning sensation type pain in both breasts but didn’t think anything of it

I am 37

i went to the doctor yesterday and she had a feel

didnt really say anything just she would do a two week referral however when I got home I received a phone all from the nurse from the surgery asking me to pick up the paperwork as the hospital will be calling to arrange an appointment by Tuesday this week.

i have not been too concerned as I have not seen many story’s of lumps in armpits and no lumps in the breasts

my nipples are fine and my skin appears normal

I just have this painless lump which does not appear to be on a lymph node and the burning type sensations (abit like a Chinese burn )

did is anyone else have a lump in the armpit that turned out to be BC

i am remaining positive but at the same time feel you should always kind of prepare for the alternative as you never know what is around the corner and I’m a realist

many thanks for any responses and I hope you are all well

    Oh Rachel,

You must be spitting feathers! I am amazed that they didn't cancel your appointment when they didn't have your results back.

The news about your ultrasound sounds promising. It's awful having to wait another week for results, but you will get through it. Try to distract yourself from the wait by keeping busy.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Audrey,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you find yourself waiting for more tests. This is always a worrying time, as there is no way of telling whether or not there is anything untoward. I sincerely hope that there is still nothing there to worry about.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

  • Hi everyone,

just happened to find this forum as I'm going through something similar now. I went to my GP yesterday as I had what it seems a lamp on the side of my body at the level of my armpit. Because it's on the side of the armpit and not in the armpit, they didn't think it was anything to worry about. It is true that it isn't a well defined lump, and it feels like it only comes up when I put my arm up. But it's quite noticeable when you compare it against the other arm, where there's only a gap. They only told me that's maybe the way my left arm is, and didn't refer me or wanted to do any follow ups. I'm worried now that this might actually be something and it's not going to get looked at. Can I go to the hospital or anywhere else to get a second opinion? I'm originally from Spain and really haven't needed the doctor for anything else than the usual cold for all the time I have lived in the UK. As I'm registered with my GP I'm not sure if I have any other options or if I could go somewhere else to get another opinion on it, as it won't leave my head and I'm convinced my arm hasn't always been like this.

    Many thanks

    Hi Elvira,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Many of us get benign lumps on our limbs. I have one on my arm, which worried me for a number of years. I have now been told that it is just a lipoma - a fatty lump. It is quite obvious when you look at my arm, but I have been reassured that it is nothing to worry about.

Even if you are registered with a GP, you can ask for a second opinion. Why not make an appointment with one of the other doctors in your practice for a second opinion?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

  • Hello Jolamine,

thanks for your warm welcome :)

I did try to book a second appointment to get a second opinion, but they said they are very busy at the moment. The GP didn't talk about any follow ups but the recepcionist told me to check how it is in a month's time and get in touch then if anything has changed, I thought I could try and visit a walk in clinic to see if they can check it out in the meantime to give me some peace of mind.

I think it's the fact that I still don't know what the lump is that's making me worry.

Thanks for your response, really appreciated :)

    Hi Elvira,

If you have a walk-in clinic near you, it might be worth visiting it. Failing that, do get in touch with your practice in a month and ask for a second opinion.
