Just received letter of high grade (severe) abnormal cells

I am 30 this year and for many reasons due to travelling for years and childbirth and periods on appointment days, I have just had my first cervical screening. It has come back in a week as high grade (severe) which has really caught me off guard. Last year I was at the doctors for abnormal heavy bleeding (which ironically was on the day I was meant to have smear) but they said was probably down to the implant, I have also been for a lump on my groin which they thought was an ingrown hair and finally pains in my lower abdominal and pelvis which they thought was possible muscle pull.  I accepted all of these diagnosis and went along with daily life but as soon as I was off work, had child care and hubby back from working away I went for smear. Part of me put off because I didn't want to get judged for how long I had left it since my first ever letter- silly I know! Now I have received the results I feel sick. Thinking all of the complaints last year are now linked and I am thinking the worst. I'm lying in bed ill just thinking about it all! I would like to know if 5 years makes a huge difference in abnormal cells developing into cancerous cells and should I be preparing myself for the works when I go in for the hospital appoint. Which could be up to 2 weeks, only just to get a date!!!! Help, advice, reassurance welcomed. I already hate myself enough for missing so many chances so please no telling off for that- my mam has already had a good go!

  • Hi

I had letzz treatment for severe abnormal cells. Please have anaesthetic cream put on your cervix before having the anaesthetic needles because they are pretty painful.  It made me swear.  The treatment is pretty quick.

  • Hi

I am also new to this group ️

I had some smear results back on Thursday which were high grade severe, I had a phone call the next day from the hospital to ask me to go for a colocopy on Tuesday!

I am petrified as I was told by my gp that no appointments were being made for 6 weeks with Covid19 - however I have been pulled in straight away for an apt by the hosp.

any updates on your results would be greatly appreciated xx

  • Hey , bless ya it's a scary time  . I had to have lletz treatment which they burn off the cells . And 6 months let's my hpv has gone and I'm bk to 3 yearly smears .

to be honest hun I think they got you in straight away because all routine things have been cancelled . So they have the space to see you as soon a possible xx it's not something they can leave ,they normally are really good I got in last year within 10 days .

hope this helps , hope your oki I know how scary it is xx

  • Also just prepare your self hun because if they think that you need treatment  they potentially could do it the same day xxxx

but honestly hun . I was terrified and it's didn't hurt at all it really wasn't bad at all xxx

  • Thank you so much for coming back to me :)

I am just trying to think positive and hopefully it's easily treated/removed.

Congrats on your clear smears - bet that is such a relief!

    Thank you again xxx

  • Hello,

I could really use some reassurance I have received a letter to say that I have high grade pre cancerous cells and been offered a large loop excision which I want understandably.

In the same week I have discovered I am pregnant around 5-6 weeks. I am freaking out. Tried to call my hospital and no response and spoke to my doctor this morning who advised they will want to postpone until after the pregnancy.

This scares me even more, no one has explained anything to me, will the delay increase the risk, how at risk am I already.

Just any guidance or reassurance would be greatly appreciated .

    Thank you x

  • Hey, dont panic just yet!!

I would try maybe ringing macmillian they have nurses u can speak too maybe they could help answer your question?? Only suggestion hope all goes well

    Katy xx

  • Hi Lindsay, how long did you have hpv for? I’ve just had my 3rd test that’s come back positive but this time I’ve got high grade cell changes.
  • Hi,

I just wanted to let you know my experience. I had high great abnormal cells back in 2007 which were picked up from a routine smear, but I had been having some abnormal bleeding at the time also which I thought was my pill.

anyway I was so scared but was absolutely fine. I had a colposcopy where they removed the abnormal cells which they sent off to check all ok. My results came back to confirm it was CIN and I've had clear smears since. Smear tests are designed to detect abnormal (pre cancers) cell before they become cancer and now all Pre cancerous cell change to cancer but safer I have them removed. The doctor told me that's abnormal cell changes and cervical cancer are (usually) slow growing and can't take years to develop. Hope your treatment goes well

  • Evening ladies sorry to bump in mid convos

    Just wanting a little advice.

16 months ago my smear came back all good

I've had problems ongoing for a good few years from prolonged bleeding to bleeding after intercourse repeated bactrial vaginous so a all ok smear to me was fab news

But September 2019 I had a colposcopy (excuse the spelling)

That was ok too my problems still continued so was sent back for another colposcopy as soon as the nurse was in position ‍♀️

She Stated I had abnormal cells. Biopsy has been taken just awaiting my results.

So as you can all imagine I'm a little  Anxious.

    Should I be considered

    Many thanks in advance xx
