Going mad over waiting for CT Scan results, a bit at a loss!

Uuuuugh!

At the start of December I had been referred to a haemotologist oncologist in order to check out some enlarged nodes popping up over my neck. Before seeing him, I had an US of the area and the back of my neck to check the nodes out. Although enlarged, they were within normal ranges. I also had a big chunk of blood taken from me and had a raised white count and quite raised serum ferratin.

He, at the time, insisted all was good and these markers weren't hugely outsideof the normal range (though I never saw the range myself- but I also had a cold at the time which may have skewed?)

He sent me for a CT Scan regardless, though, and said he was looking forward to discharging me.

CT Scan got done on the evening of the 21st of December, felt like I was wetting myself and that I could taste magnets - the usual. Christmas and new years came and went, I was pretty chilled out following doc's words. Staff at the hospital told me that unless urgent, my results most likely wouldn't be read and authorised until early Jan.

Early Jan, letter comes through the post, another appointment with the Haemo/Onco doctor (he scheduled this before I had my CT Scan), which is surprising as I would think they wanted to refer me back to GP to be discharged. He scheduled this appointment the evening of the 19th of December - before I'd even had my CT scan.

I thought I'd call and chase my scan results to see if they're in. It turns out they were read, authorised, and sent to the oncologist on the 22nd of December (I had my scan the evening before).

If my scan came back clear, I'd rather not take the time out of work, have seven large vials of blood taken, just to walk into his office and be discharged. It's also the NHS' time, money, and this is the busiest period for them following the winter appointment rush and staffing difficulties.

I'm also slightly concerned that my scan results were authorised and sent to the doctor so quickly, and that he hasn't discharged me nor contacted my GP since.

I'm not even sure what I'm asking here, I'm just getting a bit worried now basically.

  • Just the long wait hoping that it's been that long things are ok would they call you to come in early if there was something
  • I was diagnosed with Invasive  breast cancer August 2019 following wide excision and removal of sentinel node.  It was 4 weeks before getting results and I was advised to have dissection of all axillary nodes.  I asked what happens following things and was told staging!!! If necessary CT & bone scan.

I asked for a CT scan before 2nd lot of sugery. This was done 6.10.2019    I asked 4 times result of scan

Almost 5 weeks later when I went for results of axillary node dissection I was informed 9 positive lymph nodes.

I asked again for result of CT scan.  It had been put on the back burner as  non urgent!!

Following family intervention the scan was reported on the following day. It showed extensive  bone metastasis to spine, pelvis, sternum.  Still waiting for a bone scan

I'm now waiting to see an oncologist on wednesday

I want to know where do I complain to.  The disease is happily multiplying and the NHS doesn't give a toss

  • Just wondered if anyone knows how long it takes to hear about ct after x-ray found shadow had call to get ct next day now awaiting results from that waiting seems to be worse than getting bad news sitting in limbo

    Thanks

  • Hi, I went for a scan week before Christmas, and called on New Year's Eve to see if anything done. They printed off and passed to consultant (mine is possible lymph's around heart - sjorgrens) like all here, wondering how long before they contact me .

  • Hi I've been waiting 5 weeks rang doctors said due to covid things behind

  • My husband had large hard lump on the back of his head. GP wouldn’t see him because of Covid I took photos and explained that it was growing rapidly not giving him any pain, they said it was a cyst and not to worry . They then asked to see him and sent him for ultrasound which showed nothing much. They then sent him for CT scan with contrast , they made me leave him and they left him for a moment and he fell of the bed and hit his head, he vomited and knocked out the cannula , he was then taken to emergency hospital because they needed to check him over take bloods etc they did head CT without on contrast because of the vomiting. We were sent home, with follow up by GP . We then got second CT scan with contrast . This all went well and I was able to stay with him. Consultant then came and saw us both and said they had found more but wouldn’t say what they had found. Now have follow up appointment with oncology in ten days. Nine days to go my husband has been fine eating ,drinking sleeping and working with no ill effects. I am so scared can’t sleep I can’t function it’s been the longest wait of my life. How do you all cope it’s agony the not knowing and not being in control. I just hope and pray that it’s all good . They found inflamed lymph glands in his groin when they did second scan and lump on the back of his head is now the size of a grapefruit.

  • Hi Queenbe

Not quite same situ but very confused about recent CT scan. Have ed sclc with short course radiotherapy & then 4 cycles carboplatin. Oncologist said latest CT scan was inconclusive but his interpretation of image was progression & therefore chemo had not worked. He said he had not received a written report from radiologist. Did oncologist mean CT was inconclusive meaning not confirmed by written report
