Waiting for results

Hi all, I found out last Tuesday that I more than likely have breast cancer. I've had an ultrasound biopsy and then a mammogram biopsy on the same day. I didn't really take in much of what the radiographer said, as I was in shock but remember calcification and a second area 5cm behind the original lump that I found. I'm 48, have 2 children aged 8 and 11 and have never felt so scared and lonely in my life. I don't know what will be happening until 5th January

  • Hi  jolamine ,

Yes I have a goblet cell carcinoid tumour but I have no idea what grade it is at yet until my scan results , I'm hoping I wont have to wait much longer as it already feels like forever when I was told I had this tumour but in reality it was only 5 weeks ago x

    Hi Liwalki,

I have a rare form of breast cancer which only affects 1% of people with breast cancer. I found it very difficult to get any information at all about this in the early stages after diagnosis. About 4,000 people a year get goblet cell carcinoid tumour in the UK, so fortunately there is some information about it. If you go up to the blue banner at the top of this page, you will find the search facility on the left. Insert 'goblet cell carcinoid tumour' in the box and click. This will bring you up previous posts on this topic, which you may find helpful.

Try to avoid googling and stick to well respected sites like this. Google can be a minefield of terrifying information, which doesn't serve any useful purpose.

Here's hoping that you won't have much longer to wait before you get your scan results.

Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi everyone,

I note this post is a bit old but just wanted to share my current situation with others who will understand how I may be feeling.

I have an 17 month old little boy who is my world and a lovely supportive husband. I went to see the GP on Monday and she gave me an examination and noticed a lesion on my cervix.

she referred me  under the cancer pathway but said she did so to get me seen quicker. I asked her during the appointment if she was worried and she said no and I then called back the following day and she asked if she thought it may be cancer, she said she thinks it is something else but wants me to be seen quickly as the normal process could take months.

I then received my appointment letter which said I have been urgently referred as I have symptoms which may mean I have cancer and the GP secretary told me when I rang yesterday that it may be cancer or may not be!!

I phoned the clinic where my appointment is and she said that the referral was just for the lesion on my cervix and nothing else noted.

I am going out of my mind with worry, do they have to tell you in the GP appointment if they have significant concerns of cancer? My appointment isn't till Thursday but I am panicking as they have rushed me through and no one seems to be giving me a clear response.

Sorry for waffling I don't know where else to turn for support/advice.

    Xx

  • Hello Iw84,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about how you feel just now. Let me assure you that you are not alone. As soon as we know that there is even the slightest chance of getting a cancer diagnosis, our brains go into overdrive and we all go into panic mode. This is a scary time as there are so many unknowns. Regardless of the outcome you will feel better once you know what you are dealing with.

As for feeling rushed through, it is normal to be given an urgent appointment in such circumstances, but this does not mean that you have cancer. This appointment is as much to rule it out, as it is to find it.

It is only by attending the clinic and getting some tests carried out that you can be certain either way. You will often have a further wait of 1-2 weeks for the results of these tests before you can be sure. Doctors are in the same boat as you at the moment and they will be anxiously awaiting the outcome of these tests, before they know any more.

Before they give you your results, they will hold one of their regular multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, where your case will be discussed. If it is cancer, your consultant will then be able to discuss the best way forward for you.

In the meantime try to keep yourself busy to help pass the time and, whatever you do, steer clear of the internet. This will only scare you further for no valid reason.

Having said all this, I sincerely hope that it all turns out to be benign and you can return to your supportive husband and little boy in a better frame of mind.

Please let us know how things go for you on Thursday. We are always here for you.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx
