Dull aching in right leg

Hiya,

My name is Emma, im 18 and am getting concerned about pains in my right leg.

As I can recall, I've been getting the pain for about a year or so but it isn't constant, it comes about every couple of months or so. I started to think this might not be quite right last week when I got the pain again (it's like a really heavy, dull ache which feels deep, in my bone rather than muscular and resembles an intense sort of growing pain). It came on in the evening and continued into the night, keeping me awake until the early hours of the morning. It doesn't seem to be affected with movement, if anything it is worse when I'm still or laying in bed. The bulk of the pain was in my thigh nearish my knee but it radiated down my leg then a bit into my pelvis.

I'm hoping to book an appointment with the GP soon but fear they may just overlook it as muscluar or no important as it's not constant. But I'm getting pretty worried about it as there is no obvious reason for this pain at all, I haven't injured my leg and surely I'm past the age of growing pains now, equally I've always known growing pains to affect both legs rather than one.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help with suggestions or their own personal expereicences, thank you!

    Hi Emma,

In one way this is good news, but you still don't know what the problem is. Don't be afraid to pursue the cause until you discover the reason for your pain.

Please stay in contact and let us know the outcome when you find out.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Emma, Did you ever find out what this was or why you felt this pain? I know it’s been some months but are you still getting it? As I have exactly the same ache as you’ve described it and it’s really bothering me!! Any advice or info would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe
  • Hiya Joe!

I'm sorry to hear you're going through the same thing - it is horribly annoying isn't it!

I'm afraid I can't really help you though as I was told there was nothing found wrong in my leg, which is good but I have no explanation for it. I haven't had the pain for a while, certainly not as bad as that time before so I just put it down to growing pains or something. However, if I do get it badly again or it gets worse I'm not going to hesitate in going back.

I hope you get things sorted out and all is well!

  • Hi Emma

I have had exactly the same symptoms as you but in my left leg.  Like an unbearable deep uncomfortable pain that can be soothed by hard pressure somewhat.  At its like through the whole length of the bone starting from the hip right down to below the knee. Mostly like in the bone... I too went to the doctor and had a range of blood tests done and nothing came up (which is good) however when they did an xray they said that I had some rheaumatism (or was it arthritis) in the leg.  Will check today again.  And like you it only came on when I would be still rather than active ( so it couldn't be restless leg syndrome) Did you end up finding anything more out?  And have the pains subsided?

    Many thanks

    Elena

  • I've been having the same problem!! The aching isn't constant for me though – it's subdued slightly but it's still there. Worried out of my mind and can't get an x-ray because my parents don't believe me.

  • hello.

I've been having this bruise like pain in one of my legs. for ages.

But no actual bruise is visible.

Could it be a possible blod clot or DVT? Ive got a family history of having them at the early age.

    Thank you.

    Hi Legs,

It is impossible to diagnose your leg problems without seeing you. You are obviously worried about this pain, so why not see your GP?  You do not say what age you are, which could have a bearing on your symptoms.

There are a number of potential diagnoses from growing pains, circulatory problems, nerve damage or bone problems. Your GP can send you for tests to determine what is wrong, so please make an appointment as soon as you can and put yourself out of this misery.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi ks,

Are you still having pain in your legs? If so, please see my reply to Legs2018.

If you are still having pain you need to have a serious talk with your parents and go to see your GP to get this investigated.

    Kind regards,

  • You really need to contact a doctor with these types of pains. Bone cancer is an aggressive cancer and early diagnosis is a must. My daughter had what they called growing pains. Pain came and went worst at night. I had no idea that at 17 years old bone cancer effects more children than adults. We lost our daughter as GPS don’t act fast enough . By the time of diagnosis it was 12 inches in length (tumour) in her left femur. We lost her to this terrible disease 2 years later. Any one out there with these types of pain need to insist on an X-ray . Hopefully it’s not but I’d recommend this to anyone now. See your Gp ASAP !!!insist on X-ray
