terrified waiting for test found large breast lump

Im sitting here just in a dreadful terrified state, thinking what about my kids and my partner,,its my daughters wedding in two days and I just found out I need an urgent mammagram etc I found a large lump saw the GP and her face said it all the lump is big and obvious and I sort of hoped she would say 'lump what lump' but she went right to it and said it was large and needed seeing urgently.

Im scared stiff and its going to be weeks really before I know how bad this is..OH god how can I get through the next few weeks and the wedding acting normal I cant tell the kids certainly not my daughters and ruin the wedding but I have to pull myslef through it all and do my job and look like it is such a happy time when truth is I just keep crying and wanting to screem and run!!!!

what the hell do I do

  • Hello Ladies..

So we had our lovely Holiday, which took our minds off it.. but when we got back today to go for the results they threw a spanner in the works.. the MRI showed up another lump in my other breast. So i now have to have that biopsied and wait for all that to come back, only that ones not as straight forward as it cant be picked up on the ultrasound.. grrr, more waiting!!..

  •

    Oh Michelle,

I bet that you are devastated. Some cancers cannot be picked up on ultrasound or mammogram, which is why the breast clinics do the triple test, just to be certain.

This is not good news for you, but it is better catching it now, rather than later on. Did they give you a date to return for your results?

I've got my fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there michelle

Im so glad you enjoyed your holiday. My second biopsy was a vacume type. It took 12 samples. Is this what you are having? It was all over in about 4 mins. (The cell taking)

I know that nothing any of us say will make the waiting easier. I was in an awful state for the whole time. It’s so hard to think positive, but you have youth on your side, and you sound a strong woman. You will get through this little  blip in your life. I just know it.

    Take care.

    Hugs and special thoughts,

    sudi

  • So im more annoyed about the fact that this lump is now holding up my treatment plan.. the little ***!!

Im not 100per cent sure what type of machine they will be using to take the biopsy, but its called a totes machine or something along those lines. And then if they cant get what they need from that then it'll be off to North London for an MRI biopsy, but hopefully it wont come to that as thats a long long wait.

In the meantime they are still waiting for the results of my BRCA1 testing and if that comes back positive then it'll be a double mastectomy and then they can test the tissue.. xx

  • Hi,

Hope you don’t mind me joining in on this forum.

ive been experiencing pain in my left breast for over a month now. Have examined myself a few times but when feeling lumps etc have panicked and stopped.

I plucked up the courage to call and make a doctors appointment today as I was terrified to hear what she may have to say.

after examining both breast she felt what she described as cysts in both breasts but has referred me to a breast clinic for further tests. She said she will not be sending it as an urgent referral so unsure on how long I will actually have to wait.

I am 25 years old with no knowledge of any previous beeast cancer in my family however I can’t help but worry.

Reading all your stories has really helped me to feel better.

  • Hi I’m also new to this forum and was looking for advice and support -

4 weeks ago around the time of my period I discovered a grape sized lump on my left breast which was painful. I decided to leave it a week or two to see if it was hormone related however went to GP last Wednesday as had grown to size of a small plum. Temperature was slight raised at 37.6?so I was given 7 days of flucloxicillan 500mg x 8 per day.  I am now on day 6 and the lump has grown and is now the size of a small tangerine and extremely painful although temperature is now 37.4. Lump is now very visible and veins appear to be more prominent. Taking painkillers and using pain relief gel and booked into breaat clinic although my appointment has came through for 8 July.  Any suggestions in the meantime? I am 46.

    Hi Lauren,

Welcome to the Forum. You are fine to post here. I am sorry to hear about the lumps that you've found. It doesn’t sound too bad when your GP suspects that these are cysts. She can’t be too worried about this when she is not sending for an emergency referral, again good news.

Still, it is just as well that she is being thorough and, not taking any chances. Please keep in touch and let us know when you get your appointment for the breast clinic through. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi I am also in a worried state atm I have a very sore left breast which I am frightened to check properly in case I find something. I’ve had Folliculitis in both armpits for a couple of months and just finished a third course of antibiotics. I have been touching my armpits a lot and also been feeling round the breast more as I’ve felt sore. My sister had breast cancer last year and mother died of it 25 years ago this Friday aged 46 (I am 45 now). I am so frightened something is wrong, i don’t have the gene my mam and sister had thankfully but what if the test was wrong!? Do I go to doctor to get checked properly?

  • Hi there [@lulu74]‍

sorry to hear that you are concerned about your breast pain.  I think you already know you should go to the doctor and get it checked out. I can understand why you are apprehensive given your family history, I was diagnosed with Bc and I am 43, my mum was diagnosed when she was 45 (17 years ago) and is still here.  It’s better to know what’s going on.

    Keep in touch.
