Do shadows on the lung often turn out to be cancer? any help appreciated!!!!

All of this has happened to me within the last week! The Dr sent me for blood tests and a chest xray - as a matter of urgency (according to my Dr) i have been referred to a specialist. The xray revealed a 'shadow' on my left lung. I know that a simple xray is not 100% diagnostic but i cant stop thinking about outcomes, from it not being cancer to having weeks to live! I cant begin to deal with this until i know what is what. It's this damn waiting!!!! Even a diagnosis of cancer would break this waiting and wondering - I feel i am in some type of limbo. It's the uncertainty Do these shadows often turn out to be cancer? Ive had a cough for months, get night sweats and i feel so old at 40 - tired and fatgued. Ive smoked for ten years, stupidly x

  • just been told i also have shadow on lung not sure which lung but suspect the right, had ct scan to follow two nodules but they are still same size and shape so no immediate threat but the shadow shown up on my ct scan and im scared but trying to cope telling myself it is what it is i cant change that. just watched mum waste away in one year with transitional cell carcinoma she was so brave and only worried about me so i have been taught how to face this in a way if it turns out to be cancer but its a lonely feeling right now waiting. i did hear palliative care being mentioned and that has to be bad news but i wish everyone luck hoping the shadows just turn out to be infections or less trouble than cancer would be. stay strong everyone

  • Hi Paul, it seems like we are in a similar situation. I've had 4 chest infections in less than a year and often feel I'm struggling to breathe, I've had a chest X-ray and a ct scan which shows shadows. Today I was told I have not had Covid so it's not that. Next appointment in 3 weeks

  • Hi guys, my mums in a similar situation. She had breast cancer that got treated with chemo and radio 4 years ago. Now for the past 1.5 months, she's been having high fevers, coughs, and shortness of breath. 2 days ago she started to feal nauseous and wasn't able to eat. In our culture we prefer avoiding the hospital and letting the body heal itself, but seeing her in pain was unbearable. By this time, we had already spoken to the gp and after he saw the X-Ray he referred her to the chest clinic, but it was going to take another 2 weeks to receive an appointment for that. That's where i decided enough was enough and took her to A&E. Now she's been in the hospital for the past 2 days and is having numerous CT Scans and other tests. Most annoying thing is that because of COVID we are not even allowed to meet her. The waiting game is the worst! She's there alone with nothing other to do than worry, at home everybody is worried sick too! I hope to god that it's something minor, nothing more than a little infection; but whatever the outcome I pray that no suffering is involved. I urge anyone else in similar situations no to worry, just be there for their loved one and distracted them from this waiting

  • Hi

During a chest X-ray a shadow was also found on my husbands lung and now waiting for a Ct Scan. Very worrying time. Just wondering what the outcome of your husbands ct scan was? I hope it was all ok. Thanks

  • Hi Paul

I came across this post whilst searching for answers. My husband has similar symptoms to yours and now awaiting CT scan results. I'm just wondering how yours went? I hope it wasn't anything to worry about. Thanks
