Birth mark on nose turned out to be a intradermal nevus. Is this normal?

Hi there

I am wondering if anyone experienced anything like this. I had a little mole on my nose (slightly raised). Once I must have caught it ( I wasn't aware) as I was examined it in the mirror, i t looked like tiny blooding. I saw GP who was also dermatologist, she was not concerned. However, told me to be careful in the future. As i started wearing reading glasses I was worried it might happen again. I decided to have it remove and the results came back as an intradermal nevus. The doctor while removing it with punch biopsy instrument, after healing a bit of pigment stayed behind. However, it was flat we decided to leave. After a year and half I noticed from photos that the pigment left behind its a bit smaller and the colour less darker. The dermatologist looked it and thinks it's nothing sinister and believe it's better to leave it as it is and we can keep an eye every year ( I see her every year).

I wonder it this is normal and can actually happen? Anyone had any experience like this? I was reassured by Doctor that concern usually if it it growing and getting darker.

  • I'm glad to hear this mole was benign jk1980, although I'm sorry for the lingering concern this pigmentation is causing.

Unfortunately I can't answer your questions about this but our team of cancer nurses may be able to help so if you'd like to have a quick chat with them about this, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to help and provide you with the reassurance you are seeking at this time.

Hopefully some of our members will share their experiences with you soon but in the meantime, don't hesitate to discuss any further queries and concerns with your dermatologist as they are ultimately in the best position to advise.

If it would help, you could always try getting a second opinion.
