Possible lymphoma based on enlarged lymph nodes

Hi everyone, I felt a pea-size lymph node in my neck a few months ago which has grown to over 3cm in 3months, and there are now more enlarged nodes around that first one (but smaller). I had an ultrasound scan and the notes say that the appearance is of malignant lymphadenopathy which might be lymphomatous or metastatic (thank you NHS app for having some of the notes!). I’m now waiting for another urgent appointment for a biopsy and CT scan.

From the notes it reads like it is lymphoma so I’m mentally preparing for that, I’m not sure how it could be anything else at this point?! I’m not sure why I’m posting but I’m keeping a lot of this to myself so I don’t worry people, and it’s hard waiting isn’t it?! Thinking of everyone who is waiting for an appointment.

  • Thank you.  At least I know at my next appt that it is actually a US and biopsy.  Where are your lumps displayed? fingers crossed for you with your biopsy & keep us updated whatever the outcome x

  • I’ve got inflammation under my left armpit and lumpy nodes on my left collar bone, they’re not visible but I can feel them. Thank you let’s keep each other updated on here. Fingers crossed for you too xx

  • So glad there has been some movement forward for you, fingers crossed the next app tells them more.

I am having a nightmare…. I kept getting new referrals on my NHS app and after the 3rd one today I called them, they have told me the original referral (last Friday)was put through to the wrong department and was sent back to GP, the GP sent another one to Urgent Referral ENT Rugby but at some point today after being passed from pillar to post, I ended up on the phone to a consultants secretary at Urgent referral UHCW and she advised they don’t have a clinic at rugby so I should get in touch with my GP and ask them to make sure they have sent the referral to the right place. To add insult to all of it, the lovely secretary warned me that even when the referral gets to them, there is a huge backlog they are trying to work through, so wait time is much longer than the 2 weeks.
    I’m just…. I don’t even know

  • How is everyone getting on? I had referral yesterday and based on the ultrasound they suspect it is lymphoma. I have a PET scan and biopsy next week.

  • I’m sorry to hear this, how are you feeling about it all? What did they say to suggest it was lymphoma? That’s a lot of worry to leave hanging over your shoulders whilst you wait for the PET scan and biopsy.

I’m still none the wiser, get my biopsy results on Tuesday but I’ve definitely had another lumpy lymph node come up since. I am almost certain mine is lymphoma. I think it’s Diffuse B-Cell because it seems to be changing rapidly but obviously I won’t know for sure until I get my results.

Sending you lots of love and hugs and hope if it is lymphoma that they’ve caught it early xx

  • I didn’t actually have an US or biopsy at my first appointment last week, just an examination.  I have an US and biopsy on the 10th next week.  I still don’t really have any answers as to what I could be but he said my big lymph node on my right side is concerning, the right side of my thyroid is also slightly enlarged x

  • Sorry to hear this.  I hope you have some answers soon x

  • I’m interested to hear if either of you have had any other symptoms and where your lymph nodes are located x

  • Mine are my left armpit and left side of the neck near the collar bone. I wouldn’t say I’ve had any obvious symptoms. My neck and arm have felt quite tight and tender at times and I’ve also felt tender like I’m bruised around my left rib cage. Other than that I would say breathlessness but I’m not sure if that’s more an anxiety thing rather than the real deal. What symptoms have you had? Xx

  • I haven’t really had any other symptoms apart from the enlarged lymph nodes and the slightly enlarged thyroid on the right side.   I do have a pea size lymph node on neck above right side of collarbone, however my large one is just above that on same side so still towards the lower part of my neck.   I also have two lymph nodes on the left side of my neck towards the top and one of those is slightly to the back.  My US biopsy is going to be on the right side next week as that’s what the ent doc had concerns about.  They will also take biopsy from the left side if they feel they look suspicious from the US on the day x
