Swollen lymph nodes help

Hello,

I am looking for some advice.

It all started 3 months ago when I got a painful swollen lymph node under my armpit. You could visibly see the area enlarged and it was painful to the touch.  The armpit lymph node is weird it will come and go. On average it will be sore very two weeks or so.

This continued for some weeks.

Thereafter my lymph nodes above my collar bones left and right side also swell. They are also tender to the touch.

Not sure if related, I also experience joint pain particularly in my knees which get really stiff after pro longed sitting and red and warm to the touch. This is something I've had on and off since I was a teen.

I did also have some shoulder pain, not really sure if causes by the joint pain generally as in my knees or due to the enlarged lymph nodes.

After two months of this, I went to see my GP. She could not feel the one in my armpit which ( at the time wasn't painful so I'm assuming it must've temporarily went down). She could feel the one above the collarbone but said it felt normal and around 0.5 Cm in size. She has done a full blood count and a blood test for arthritis markers (cannot remember the name) . Both came back normal. She also referred me for - chest x-ray which also came back normal. She asked me to monitor over the next three months.

Part of me feels like it may be arthritis related, though the blood test came back negative for it and there is mixed opinion online as to whether it can cause swollen lymph nodes. No other symptoms usually associated with lymphoma is no fever, night sweats or rashes or fatigue

It's now been about a month since my last GP visit and all my symptoms persist. I am feeling like I'm losing my mind trying to figure out what is wrong. I do also have a lot of health anxiety so this isn't helping

  • Hello 1234sympt

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some ongoing health concerns at the moment. We know that for many people when a cause for their symptoms isn't immediately obvious it can cause anxiety. It's good to hear however that your tests to date haven't given any immediate cause for concern.

Hopefully, when you next follow up on these problems with your GP they will be able to suggest some further investigation or referrals to get to the bottom of things. In the meantime try to avoid searching for information online as we know that this typically leaves people feeling more anxious and worried and still with no answers to their situation.

You might find it helpful to look at this information on the NHS website which has lots of advice and tips for managing health anxiety.

I do hope that things settle and improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
