Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

yes the same thing happened to me they said no chemo , but halfway through they told me I may need it I had a meltdown bought wigs hats and emotionally prepared for it had the Oncotype DX test it came back no chemo required so I had a massive party lol xx

  • No need to apologise- we are all here to support each other.

I noticed that my right breast was sort of flatter at the bottom compared with the left, and then from the side I could see kind of puckering of the skin under the breast. I couldn’t feel any lumps and nor could my gp, but the breast doctor could xx

  • I kept looking online about wigs etc because I work with children with mental health issues etc, and I didn’t want to cause them any trauma, as well as really not wanting to lose my hair xx

  • Gooner

hopefully  your plan won’t change like mine and you won’t have to worry about wigs at all lovely xx

  • Oh Lebel bless you

are you going to cold cap ? For the chemo

  • I’m really not sure, I hate being cold and the oncologist said many women get headaches with them, my hair is pretty fine and falls out all the time anyway with any luck I might get a thicker head  of hair haha xx

  • Aww bless you you sound so positive.

have a look on Amazon they have fringes on a hair and they are amazing it’s a actual hairband I bought a few of them as if you have a hat on or those beautiful turbans it looks like you have hair underneath, and you can buy sportcaps with hair xx. So much choice now I studied it and bought it all and never used it I had custom made wigs done , I donated them to charity afterwards x

  • HI GoonerGirl,

I am so sorry to hear this. The one good thing is that you have caught it early. It is always difficult to break the news to loved ones, but the thought of it is usually worse than actually telling them. Although I appreciate that this will still come as a shock, you sound pretty positive about the way forward. If you can maintain this positivity, it helps, when you break the news.

I am glad to hear that the lymph nodes appear to be clear and that there doesn't seem to be any need for chemo and hope that this continues to be the case post-surgery. You're in for a tough few months, but you'll soon be back to your old self. I'm delighted to hear that hubby has been more supportive today and hope that this continues.

I am pleased to hear that your doctor was lovely - you will feel much happier about going through this when you have faith in your surgeon. I hope that the MRI on Monday can clarify things further for you.

As you know, we are always here for you.

    Kindregards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi GoonerGirl,

I forgot to mention that the MRI produces a series of images of the inside of the breast. As far as I understand, this give more detail than a mammogram or CT scan.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
