Positive fit test and colonoscopy result.

Hi,Id just like to share my experiences that ive been through over the last few weeks for the benefit of people who are going through the same thing.

Im a 50 year old male and I recently had a fit test result of 16. Not massively over but over nonetheless. Immediately I'm thinking the worse and I was convinced I had bowel cancer. I'd noticed blood whilst wiping on the odd occasion which I'd never seen before. My other symptoms were a change in my toilet habits and occasionally I'd get stomach pains. I'm going to sound like a hypocrite here but stay off Google as it sent me doolally! My anxiety was worsened as well by a work colleague who's recently had bowel cancer but has since made a full recovery.

Just because your fit test is high it doesn't mean you have cancer. It could be lots of things. Believe me I was the world's worst at being anxious to the point that it made me I'll. Share your thoughts with family and this forum helped me as well.

I had my colonoscopy today. They were really nice and helpful and made me feel totally at ease. The pre examination drink was fowl but I split my drinks into quarter measures and had one every 15 minutes, then the other 4 a few hours later. Be warned though, don't stray to far from a toilet. My colonoscopy was ok, I had the sedation and barely felt anything. They found I had internal piles,4 polops that they removed and I also have colitis. Apparently the colitis can cause slight bleeding. It's quite enflamed down there which I now have to take suppositories for the next month to hopefully get it back to normal.

Don't be Afraid it could be anything and you really need to have the colonoscopy to give you the all clear and peace of mind.

Good luck and thank you to the good people on here who helped me.

Take care.

Steve.

  • Hi Amanda, how are things? I've my colonoscopy tomorrow and then three different pre-op appointments next week...plus GP wants to see me next week to see how I am..good job I've been signed off work for a few weeks xx

  • Hope you're feeling lots better Sue? Xx

  • That’s great news Lily, do you know what’s going to happen now if anything. Xx

  • Hi Helen and I hope things go smoothly for you tomorrow, I know what it’s like having a lot of appointments, my husband has them piled up for November, they’ve now found a cyst on his spleen!!! that’s what happens when you have CT scans.
, but better to find them early.

Im sure you’ll do well Helen, let us all know how you get on won’t you.

Im ok after the cataract surgery, can see a lot better now, just hate all the drops that has to be done. On a good note  I had my 23rd cystoscopy yesterday another all clear for bladder cancer, 11 years ago today I went to the doctors with blood in my wee. Feeling very happy xx Wishing you all well xx

  • Hi Sue..I do hope so re tomorrow as they don't do sedation for this type of colonoscopy so am worried it will be painful..altho I think I can have gas an air..

That's so good news re your cystoscopy...lovely to hear another all clear.. and also good eyes feeling better...so another positive.. hope your husband's appointments go well...feels relentless with lots of appointments doesn't it...at least as you say CT scans pick things up and still in some ways not got my head around feeling perfectly healthy and would have had no idea what I've got without the routine screening.. I'm just so pleased they reduced the age as otherwise I'd have had another 6 years before finding out!!! Xxx

  • That's fantastic news I'm so pleased for you. Did they say what was wrong? X

  • Sorry I've not been in touch had issues with my email. Sorted it out now. Good luck with your colonoscopy today I will be thinking of you. Hope it goes well for you. Let us know how you get on. Sounds like you have a very busy couple of weeks bless you xx

  • How are you after your cataract surgery. So sorry to hear about your husbsnds cyst. Are they going to do anything with it. I have one on my brain and they are leaving that. They said its fine where it is. Congratulations on your cystoscopy that's great news. Xx

  • Ahh thanks Amanda, cataract surgery went well, just the 4 drops 4x a day but it’ll be worth it. Need glasses to read now but distance is ok.

Husbands having an ultrasound next week then an appointment with Hematolgy to see what’s what about the cyst, reassuring to hear about yours though.

Helen how did you get on, hope it went well and was over quickly xx

  • Hi Sue sounds like it is getting better..sounds like he'll be busy with appointments next week like me..was quick and not painful and the enema was tons better than the drinks..just worrying what they wrote as had in my head totally it is a polyp so to hear the word tumour is worrying xx
