Waiting for biopsy results

Hello

I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks, not wanting to write anything down as it made it feel more real!  I al so sorry to those of you in the same position, or worse, than me.

I found a breast lump a few weeks ago, - well the dog did when he stood directly on it and I nearly jumped out of the bed it hurt so much!! i hadn’t noticed it before.

I got referred within the 2ww period and that’s when it all started looking a bit serious. At the ultrasound the radiologist said I had a ‘space invader’  which is quite funny I suppose. When I asked if it could be a cyst or a fibrodema she said it wasn’t either. She said not to worry they would know more when they got the biopsy results and deal with it. I had a look at the screen and it’s a hideous looking spikey thing, like a paint splat.  The radiologist was really lovely and I do feel she was preparing me for bad news, as was the nurse afterwards. The ‘c’ word was never used which was comforting though.

I only have an 8 day wait for the results so they are next Thursday 17th. I veer between feeling fine and feeling almost sick with worry. I have things organised every day up until then and hopefully the time will go quickly.

My husband seems ok with it but I have been very matter of fact, pretending I really am not that concerned when actually I am.

Being in contact with others on here  in my situation will help I think as it’s so hard for anyone to understand how awful the waiting is!!!! Thanks for reading this X

  • Hi Casmo,

I am sorry to hear that you are in for round 2, after 31 years. You must be frustrated at only getting 50% of your results so far, but it sounds as if your surgeon is being very thorough, which is good. I had 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of one another and know what a shock this can be. However that was 14 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Thinking of you and always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Nb13,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you need to have another biopsy and can understand how frustrating this is, especially with so much about to change in your life. There are different types of biopsies. Some take a sample of cells, while others take a sample of tissues. when tissue is taken instead of cells, this gives more detailed information. A number of people have to have a second biopsy, not because the first procedure wasn't carried out correctly, but possibly because the result wasn't as clear cut as required.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well eventually.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamene, I do feel very lucky actually - if anyone who has this can be lucky- I honestly think if the dog hadn’t stood directly on the lump I would not have noticed so it could have been much more serious. I am outwardly a very upbeat person so I am hopefully allaying people’s fears as I tell them. Xxx

  • Thanks Jolamine, both for clarifying and for the welcome. Makes a bit more sense now. Just frustrating as I am starting a new job soon after redundancy and just rented a house and now panicking. Really appreciate the support from everyone taking the time to chat, thank you xx

  • That's amazing, your dog is a lucky charm xx

  • Hope you get the help and support you need Alys xx
