New breast lump

Hello everyone

Last night whilst in the bath I discovered a lump in my right breast just above my nipple. Straight away im panicking as my cousin was diagnosed with bc just over a year ago

So this morning I called my gp and got an appointment for 11am. I was finally seen at 11.30am (the waiting was horrible as I'm so nervous!)

The gp called me in and said that no matter what the lump felt like he was probably going to refer me to the breast clinic as they take breast lumps very seriously.

So he examined me, I showed him where the lump was and he felt it, said it felt about 1cm in size and said it didn't feel like anything serious and could be a fibroma or something. Then as I was sat next to him he started talking on a recording thing and said he was going to refer me urgently on the 2ww to the breast clinic, he suspects fibroma as the lump it smooth but irregular borders on one side (what does that mean?)

I came out feeling happy that he didn't think it was anything serious but now its playing on my mind and I've read through several forums where people start out saying thier gp said it felt like a fibroma but ended up being bc!

I'm going on holiday in 10 days so I'm panicking that I won't get the tests before I go so ill have to wait till I get back and thats the holiday ruined, I cant cancel as children and grandma whos husband passed away 6 weeks ago are really looking forward to it. The doc did say they usually get in touch within the week so I can tell them about my holiday and try and get seen before, which I doubt will happen because I'm nothing special and there are alot of other women who don't deserve to have to wait for their appointment on my account!

I'm sure I check my breasts quite regularly as I wash by hand so how does a 1cm lump just suddenly appear? Is that a bad sign?

Sorry for the long post just hope someone can offer some reassurance. Thanks for reading this far!

my friend was diagnosed just before me a few months so that’s why I kept checking never thought I’d be in same boat .

yes my arm swells on times and the tablets are ok but do occasionally get effects but on the whole not to bad really xx

how is your cousin now ? Love Lara xx

    y diagnosis was July 22

  • My cousin was diagnosed around the same time as you then! Shes feeling really *** bless her but throughout it all she's never phoned in sick at work she's just powered through, even whilst having radiotherapy! My auntie is really worried about her though because apparently she doesn't look like she's taking care of herself, she says she looks scruffy and like she's given up on herself. My cousin hates how her hairs grown back as its short and curly but I think it suits her! Did you lose your hair too? She tried the cold cap but it didn't work

bless her my friend to lost her hair and it’s short and curly she go hates it .

I didn’t have chemo mine was her2 negative I had the oncotyoe DX test which came back no chemo required it would have done more harm than good in my case not everyone had to have chemo it friends on which type xx

i hope you have managed to eat something lovely and that you safe feeling a bit better have they called with a cats for you get ? Xx

  • Glad you didn't have to go through all the chemo. I don't know exactly what type of cancer my cousins is but I know it was caused by estrogen or fed by it, so she's also on meds that put her into menopause, I think they could be the ones that make her feel *** but not sure.

Yes I had a letter by email saying I have an appointment for next Friday! So glad its before I go away on the 7th for 10 days but also that's just over a week since refferal. Glad I'm not waiting the full 2 weeks but also a bit worried as why it's so quick. Maybe the gp wrote something different down when I left the room? Crazy where your mind takes you in these situations

  • Yes mine was oestrogen fed but it’s her2 positive which is faster growing and mostly needs chemo and mine was her2 negative slower growing the tablets I take are probably the same .

that’s amazing you got the appointment try not to worry that’s about normal wait time , hopefully after the check you can go away free and relax lovely xx

  • I got my appointment a week to the day I saw my GP, the same timescale as for 2 previous referrals to the breast clinic which turned out to be nothing. Not so confident this time though. It will be great for you to go off on holiday after your appointment hopefully with positive news so you can really enjoy yourself.

  • Thanks both of you, I got my appointment letter within 2 days of referral which is very fast! When I was put on the 2ww for kidney cancer (benign tumour thankfully) I had to wait the full 2 weeks, didn't get an appointment till like the day before!

Nettie why you not confident this time? I'm sure you'll be fine as the last 2 times :)

  • Because this time I had to have a biopsy. Lesion didn't show on mammogram and is not palpable, only showed on ultrasound. Last time it was cysts, this time its different. Only discovered because I had a CT scan after breaking my ribs. A bit scary because it would not have been picked up on a regular breast mammogram screening which would have been due shortly. There is a silver lining to falling off your horse I suppose.

  • I thought mammograms always picked up anything suspicious related to cancer? Maybe the fact that it didn't is a good thing and means it's something else?

Yes its lucky you fell off your horse! Hope you wernt too badly injured? I'm guessing you must of been to need a CT scan, but if its picked up now before a mammogram, if its the big nasty then hopefully caught early? Can you feel it now you know its there?

I see lots of ladies here where mamos don’t pick up some breast cancers it’s a horrible thought but seen a few here where this happens regularly I couldn’t believe it myself but since being here myself it’s shocking xx
