Positive FIT test

I’m 40 years old and I’ve had what I thought was an upset tummy for almost 4 weeks, for 2 of these weeks I was passing almost water like poo (sorry for the info) horrific smells, tummy noises and cramping.

Now for the last 2 weeks, I am constipated for 3 days then have a day of loose poo then back to constipated, the smell is much better as are the tummy noises and the pains.

doctor did blood tests - all clear and so asked me to do stool tests for inflammation, infection and a FIT test, just had a call to say all inflammation and infection were clear but there is an elevated blood result in my FIT test and I'm being referred 2ww to hospital.

I have no other symptoms and im sadly not losing weight - does anyone have any experience with whether this sounds like cancer or something else?

I have 3 children and im trying to put on a brave face for them but im so scared

thanks for reading and wishing you all well ️ ️

  • Thank you so much for updating! I’m so happy for you that’s absolutely fantastic news and I bet you’re so relieved! Can I ask if you had thin poos sometimes? I’ve still not heard anything so no idea when my appointment will be.

  • Excellent news. So pleased for you. Fingers crossed you get the pathology soon so you can start treating the IBD

  • Hi,I've just come across your post. I've not long turned 50 and I've had the occasional blood on the toilet paper while wiping. My bloods were fine and I'm having the colonoscopy a week tomorrow as my fit test was high. It read 16! My bowel habits have gone to pot a bit but I think that might be due to me stressing. My bowel Habits aren't the best anyway tbh! I'm petrified but I've had people telling me 16 isn't really that high. Is it the higher the number the more risky it becomes? Sorry to bother you but I guess I'm looking for any kind of reassurance.

  • The Fit result is based on how much blood is identified, my was extremely high more than 400, didn’t get exact number, the consultant was surprised by how high considering the polyps he removed were so small. My first fit was 39 and my doc wouldn’t refer me, made me do a second. Good news was the colonoscopy picked up some pre cancerous polyps now removed and no cancer. Only the colonoscopy can confirm be glad your going for it

  • That's a massive difference of numbers. Was the 1st rest faulty or something? The procedure doesn't bother ne its just the fear of the unknown I guess. I'm terrified tbh. Glad you got a good outcome .

  • First time I went to doctors I had been bleeding but it had stopped that was the result of 39, the next time I did test I’d been bleeding heavily with clots for a full week so the score was bound to be high, my poop was completely red

  • Just want you to know much less serious issues like bowel inflammation or small polpys can still cause bleeding,

  • Oh I see. I bet you were worried when that happened . I've only had blood on the loo paper about 4 times in 3 months. It only seems to happen if I've had multiple bowel movements then the next day or the day after is when it happens although it only happens occasionally. I've noticed a link to drinking beer. If I drink quite a large amount it makes me have multiple bowel movements the next day. This Is the only time I've noticed blood when wiping a day or 2 later. Needless to say I've cut my beer consumption down although I only drink once a week! I'm no doctor but maybe it's irritating something somewhere.

Yes I've done some digging and it can be a few different things. Although I wish I hadn't been on Google as I'm totally paranoid now!

Thanks for replying to me. It's good to talk to others.

  • I had my colonoscopy today. 4 polyps removed and I have colitis. No cancer thank god!
