Waiting for CT scan results

Hi

I was refered for a urgent CT scan as I have a painful "lump" on the right side of my abdomen, clearly felt by my GP. The pain often radiates from my groin to under my ribs.

The scan was two weeks ogo and I am still waiting for the results. I am trying to be optimistic and assuming no news is good news, but still can't stop worrying. Would I have received the results by now if there was a cause for concern or has anyone received concerning news from scans after two weeks?

  • Morning

The phone just rings out lol! I was told, even with urgent scans, there could be a 6-8 week wait, I was just hoping it would be sooner. The GP still hasn't had the report, but I will keep chasing. I am still hoping no news is good news, so fingers crossed.

  • Hi coggy, fingers crossed for you too, and I really hope you hear soon

  • Hi I m new on here

Sorry  to hear results are taking so long , it makes things so stressful

I had a CT scan today , they couldn't use contrast as I am allergic to it but I'm hopeful they can see what they need .
I have had constant stomach pain on the left side for almost a year , chronic indigestion , change in bowel habits and awful back pain . I am booked on for a colonoscopy and endoscopy in September (10th) I wondered  if I would get my CT results by then but now I'm not so sure .

I hope you all hear really soon and that it's good news

  • Hi Liskit, If your colonoscopy is at the same hospital then the doctor might be able to view the CT scan digitaly so he can see perhaps what he might be looking for. Normally it is your original referring Doctor whoe gives you the results. It will also depend on how long the back log is at your particular hospital. they are all playing catch up after covid so everything is taking longer. If you haven't heard by the 10th sept, it might be worth asking the doctor doing your procedure if he can view the scans.

    all the best

    HM

  • Thank you HM for the reply .
It has been a bit of a strange referral . I had a lot going on ( post menopausal bleeding and blood in my urine ) I had scans for these problems ( process of elimination ) I saw my GP who refused to send me for a colonoscopy  unless I had private health insurance or could fund it myself so I complained .
I had a call from my local hospitals gastro department who were horrified . The lady I spoke to said I was the 3 rd person she had spoken to whose GP had asked them to fund the procedure themselves . She then said " at the risk of her being fired she was referring us all for colonoscopies  and as I have swallowing problems too an endoscopy .
so this was my referral . My CT scan was at a different hospital as they had space today . .
Not sure if the CT scan was also her doing or my GP instead of a colonoscopy .
I don't know if my GP thinks I fancy a day out so I'll just empty my bowels and go have a camera popped up my bum , I know I'd rather be spending my time with my grandchildren and not have these terrible stomach pains .

    thanks again

  • Hi I'm new to this forum so apologies I mean to reply to everyone going through this awful process.

My mum has a history if bladder cancer which was successfully removed some years ago. She's had poor health over the last 4 years starting with a major stroke and was seriously ill at Christmas with viral encephalitis. She started passing urine VERY frequently day and night and has weakening in the legs and other vague symptoms. Her docs are useless so after alot of threats and jumping up and down a referral was made to the Urology dept at our local hospital. Following consultation a week later she had an Ultrasoud then CT scan with contrast and then a cystoscopy which was unsuccessful due to too much debris. She was then referred to have this done under general anesthetic and then got an appt for an MRI with contrast. Today she recieved a followup appt for next Weds before her cystoscopy and MRI have been done. Now worried sick they have picked something up on CT as other tests not been done yet? There was mention on a letter following her unsuccessful cystoscopy about pancreatic lesions. Just so worried and no idea if it's going to be bad news! Anyone any advice or been through similar?

Love to you all and TIA x

  • Hello

I'm so sorry to hear you had to wait so long! I am currently waiting for CT scan I had just over 2 weeks ago, I was told at the time it would be 7-10 days. My Dr surgery informed me the department were delayed and gave me a number to call to ask about the delay.

I got told it's currently a 2-4 week wait. It is horrible having to wait while still feeling poorly.

I hope you get your results asap!!

    Lols xx

  • Just wondering if anyone got their results yet. when I went in to hospital 6 days ago I was told definitly cancer and so instead of biopsy they removed the whole thing which was a carcinoma of the lower eyelid, they have removed a third hoping that the have a good margin, Tumour is at the lab being sub typed and I will get the results at my surgery follow up on 9th sept. Oncology follow up is 14th sept so I really hope they have the scan results because this will show if there has been infitration.

All the best to those still waiting

    Love Sarah x

  • I still haven't had my results from my Thoracic/ abdomen / pelvic CT scan .
I am having my colonoscopy and endoscopy on Saturday afternoon so I'm assuming either the CT scan was ok as it's been a while since I had it or they are waiting to give me the results once I have had the colonoscopy and endoscopy done .
I have tried not to worry and kept busy but as the colonoscopy is nearing I am starting to panic a bit and dreading the prep as my gag reflex isn't good .

    wishing you all well
