Found a lump in my breast

Hi I found a lump in my breast and went to doctors and he said he could feel 2 lumps and sent me for a mammergam and I'm getting my results in 2 days ..I'm am so frightened and thinking the worst as when I cup my breast I see a bit of dimpling too

Just looking for some support

Thanks x

  • It certainly does help here my partner is laid back but I've got to a point I'm checking every day saying  I can feel.a lump.of this and that I think in all honesty it drains him as he doesn't understand he says don't panick until there's something to panick about which I do get but easier said than done please keep us updates

  • Hi been to my appointment the doctor showed me how to check properly and because I'm big breastfed I need to do it laying down anyway she said there is no lumps in my breast but I have lumpy tissue which she'd said women do have but is sending me to the breast clinic to be safe and for my mental wellbeing I kept asking her does she think it's cancer she said no after this is done I have to make another appointment to discuss my anxiety they only deal with one problem at a time

  • I'm glad you went to the doctors and have been shown how to check. I hope the doctor confirmed you have no lumps and lumpy tissue has put your mind at ease a bit. It's good news that the doctor is also referring you for your peace of mind and to be on the safe side. I hope the doctor will also help you with your anxiety as well. Do you feel a bit better for going?

  • I do feel slightly better she must not of thought I had dimpling coz she checked both breasts about 3 times and never said yes there was any I'm a little worried obviously coz there's lumpy tissue in there but she did assure me she thinks this is normal she never checked down my sternum though but checked my neck collar bone etc I just have to have confidence in the Dr and not google or touch my boobs

  • Hi, I'm sorry to jump on here but you sound so much like how I've been feeling and I wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind sharing any wisdom your GP offered about checking at all please. Am so glad your GP has indicated it all feels normal and it's so reassuring to get the all clear at the breast clinic, I attended recently with a lump which thankfully turned out to be a cyst that was drained but I've found myself checking every day since and I can't get my head around what's 'normal' and what I should be feeling for - did your GP say how far down you should press and what it should feel like underneath? I've googled so much and can see it all says feel with different pressure levels but I don't know if I should be for example pressing until I can feel my chest bones / muscles. Any wisdom you can share would be so gratefully received!

    thanks

  • Hiya I'm still yet to go breast clinic my doctor told me where I'm big breasted to lay flat she said to imagine drawing a line down the breast then across so you have 4 sections then with the 3 fingers the middle part do each section in a circular motion with some pressure then lastly the nipple she explaind to  me the difference lump mass obv no what a lump is hard no soft edges non movable then a mass an be 2 lumps in same breast I haven't fully took all in will over the next day with regards to lumpy tissue it feels fuller than rest with bumpy bits I guess but she said main thing no googling do it at end of each period and don't panic I hope this helps a little x

  • Thank you, yes that does help and makes sense, I think they generally can feel a bit lumpy can't they, comparing them to flesh elsewhere eg bum which isn't same consistency. With the pressure, did they say to press until you can feel chest muscles or are we not needing to check tissue that far back? Mine are fairly big, 32E, so feels impossible to check deep enough if that makes sense!

  • She never said how deep to press but going by how she done it it didn't feel like loads of pressure on my chest she was firm but not to firm sorry don't know how to word it correctly as I was poking with the tips of my fingers so it hurt the way she done it was firm without pain circular motion she also done

I'm a 38g 5.0 feet tall so u can imagine how big they are lol

  • Hi Leanne, I just wanted to wish you good luck for today. I hope you get good news. Please keep us updated. x

  • Yeah that makes sense and when doctors have checked mine it hasn't hurt the way it sometimes does when I check. It sounds like your doctor is sending you to the clinic for reassurance so hope your appointment comes through quickly and gives you the reassurance u need, one tip I'd give is ask loads of questions; I was just so relieved to get out of there that I forgot to ask much!! Let us know how you get on, will be thinking of you xx
