Lump discovered, referral to hospital breast clinic and scar

Hi,

I discovered a lump on my breast and saw the doctor today. They are doing a quick referral for it to be checked out by the breast clinic at the hospital.

Feeling pretty anxious about it all as I'm only 28 with no children. I know it's probably going to be nothing, but so hard not to worry about it.

Any tips to stay calm?

Thank you

  • Better to overreact with something like this! You're doing the right thing! Honestly, message me anytime, day or night I will be here and respond as soon as I can. Xx

  • I'm trying to but I keep thinking things like "what is she going to do when I'm gone etc." so blooming morbid I know!

well I tried decorating her bedroom as we've just moved into a house, but I had my vaccine yesterday so been feeling groggy today! So I've been laying about and majorly overthinking! Not helpful at all!

I find walking, cleaning and seeing other people helps take my mind off of it usually!

  • Oh bless you. I can't even imagine. I keep thinking of my husband and it just breaks my heart. I've been with him for 10 years but that doesn't seem like hardly any time now. It's horribly morbid to think these things but what else can you do when you have to wait with just your thoughts. I normally go on two walk a day with my dogs so trying to do lots of mindful thinking whilst walking and just being in nature. Just a horrible time. I'm so sorry you're going through it too :( x

  • Same here! It's so annoying we do this ourselves isn't it?! It's awful how much our mind overthinks and plays tricks!

I've also come to accept I probably won't stop these thoughts until I've gone to the breast clinic which is on the 10th. Keeping everything crossed it's all ok!

here if you need a chat xx

  • Oh I'm glad you got your appointment. How long did it take for you to hear from the hospital after your Dr did the referral? My Dr has done a quick referral and said that I should be seen between 2 weeks and a month but just wondering how long it took for the hospital to get in contact with you about a date?

Will be thinking of you on the 10th and I am keeping everything crossed for you. Xx

  • Well I had an emergency GP appointment yesterday and had a voicemail from no caller ID today about appointment (didn't say what for just that they'd send a letter) so assuming it's the clinic!

my doctor said she didn't think it was anything to worry about, and that refer all women and men that come in with this concern. but now with the quickness I'm scared she was lying... but surely they can't do that?!

basically, I have a thickening at the bottom of my right breast, it sits on top of my rib, and have had it there for years. Had a doctors appointment for it before and was told to not worry, but last week I felt it again and just went into overdrive which prompted me to make an appointment.

  • It is exhausting. I can relate to you 100%.

my appointment is 10th January and I feel it's so long away and I'm trying to keep busy and it's a battle.

I'm constantly asking my husband to check my swelling and my other lump.

how are you doing? Do you have an appointment through ?

  • Oh bless you. I keep doing the same. I've developed swelling on one side of my boob that has the lump and am a bit concerned as that's only happened this evening. Not sure if it's a cause to talk to the Dr again or not. Oh bless you. Must be so nerve wracking. No not yet. I went to the Dr on Wednesday and they did a quick referral and said I should be seen between 2 to 4 weeks but haven't had anything through yet. I hope the letter comes soon so I know the date of the appointment! I wish you all the luck for your appointment and will be thinking of you with my fingers crossed! X

    Hi BethBee,

I know just how hard it is to concentrate on anything. I eventually took to doing jigsaw puzzles, as I could pick them up and wander off to do something else in between. Going for a walk can also help you to sleep better.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi my lovely,

I too had a voicemail the very next day, but it was from the clinic who were contacting me after I visited my Dr who gave me an urgent 2ww referal. It also gave no details, but just said who was calling and said a letter would be sent out. I called the number and spoke to a nurse who gave me a date to come for my first appointment. The letter sent out was to confirm the date that the nurse gave me iver the phone.

I hope this brings some relief to your concerns about the speed from Dr to breast clinic.

    Much love xx
