  • Hi just been reading your thread I was diagnosed with Triple positive breast cancer in January 2019 this came as a hugh shock as it all came to light from a routine mammogram, one minute I was fine the next my world was falling apart.  Once diagnosed I had a mastectomy with reconstruction swiftly followed by 12 weeks of chemotherapy (paclitaxel) and started 12 months of Herceptin (nearly finished) I also take anastrozole (now that's another Story).   I found it helped just to take one step at a time, try not to Dr Google too much.   There are lots of lovely ladies in the same boat and together we are going to kick its butt!!!  Feel free to ask any questions and a big hug to you all, you can do this xxx

  • Hi Julie,

I was diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer in October 2019. I had masectomy first and lymph node removal, the cancer was in 2 lymph nodes underarm.
I have had my first cycle of chemo 2 weeks ago. It seems you are having chemo first, is that to shrink the tumour before any other treatment?

it is scary, but trust in your team and they will do the best they can for you to clear you of cancer. You will have lots of support from the breast care nurses.
Think of us as a very special club and we are all here to support each other.

Wishing you all the best, let me know how you get on ,

  • Hello

Yes I was diagnosed in November and started neoadjuvant chemotherapy in January,  I had no idea I had a lump. Its 2cm and a lymph node involvement so they decided on chemotherapy first. How big was your tumour? I've had 3rd fec  and start t part in March with herceptin then surgery.

  • Hi Julie

I was unlucky I had a mammogram that was clear, a year before a lump appeared on my right breast  out of the blue. Because there was a suspicious lesion behind the mass of 2cm I was advised to have a masectomy. To tell the truth I just wanted it out, but of course now, it's not nice living with one breast and prosthesis in a bra. I can have reconstruction but the thought of an op just yet is too much. So maybe further down the line, also  I'm not that young whereas you are ?

It seems that you may have breast conserving surgery which will save your breast.
ive found the side effects of FEC chemo quite awful, the first week I was so ill and had the onco nurses on speed dial, especially in the night. I now know what to expect so maybe it won't be so bad the next cycle.

Bit freaked out today as hair is coming out in clumps and I have some mouth ulcers. But hey ho anything to rid myself of any cancerous cells left behind .

I also have 2 calcifications on my chest wall that are suspicious and they can't be biopsied  The treatment for that is 3 weeks of radiotherapy after the chemo.

The whole journey is b...awful but there is always a silver lining and I'm planning stuff to look forward to after my treatment, a mini break, a new puppy and planting my veg! And hopefully a new head of hair!!

    love to you,

    Silvet x

  • I'm 55. Did you have breast MRI to show the chest wall issue? I have had 3rd fec and I feel awful. Starting t and herceptin next. Are you? I've had heart MRI to make sure I can cope with it. I've had terrible depression from all this. I just want it out asap.

    Julie xx

  • Yes, I've had MRI and just about every other scan and cardiogram. I have 2nd FEC chemo Monday week. I haven't been told if my drugs will change but I have meeting with oncologist this week,. The whole treatments and hospital appointments seem to go on and on. I suppose none of this treatment can be rushed and we just have to take it day by day.
Have you got 6 cycles of chemo like me?
I will have medication for 5 years after radiotherapy, not sure what drug yet but oestrogen suppressive.
I found the op much easier than the chemo and it healed quite quickly.
