  • Hi I'm sorry to hear your mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and some lymph nodes removed, the surgeon was confident that he had it all as it was caught early. I then had 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I am now on hormone tablets for 5 years. The whole situation I handled well and was confident that I would fight. What stage is your mum at? I am happy to help you with anything your have queries on, sending much love

  • Hi thanks so much for your reply. They haven't told us what stage it is all they said today was a 7mm lump was found and they are almost certain it's breast cancer. I wasn't even allowed in with her I sat in the carpark for 5 hours I just wondered if you could advise me what happenes or how they tell the stage of the cancer etc I read online and I'm so upset I can't take it in. Thank you so so much for your time and kindness laura xx

  • Hi, oh babe, it's not as scary as you think. I went to hospital with a pain in my right boob this is when they found the mass in my left, I was so upset, I had a biopsy done which was so chuffing painful. I was on my own and the hospital rang my husband who was at work over the road from the hospital. When I was told it was cancer I cried and that was the only time I did, when somebody says cancer you automatically think 'I'm gonna die', it's natural thinking but I stayed positive and had good support round me. I'm so sorry you had to sit in the car, bloody COVID stinks. Like I said my journey was mammogram, biopsy, lumpectomy then radiotherapy. They normally have the results about 2 weeks after the biopsy.

    im here for you laura

  • Hi Georgina

thank you for replying so quickly your very kind. Do you think the 7mm lump is more promising regarding treatment etc ? How do they know what stage it is? Would this be known when the biopsy comes back? I'm so scared for her trying to hold my tears in but I've so many questions and as they wouldn't let me in with her I wasn't able to ask them. How long is the treatment for? Thank you you have no idea how much I appreciate your advice zx

  • Hi laura

im just trying to help you, my masses, I had 2 were 3 and 2 mm, I think your mum will probably have a lumpectomy with it only being 7 mum, it is very small if you think about it. Like I said she will probably have a biopsy where they take a bit of the lump and they also put a small piece of metal in the boob so they can use that as a marker, the biopsy will tell them the stage. When I went for my results my husband daughter and mum came in and my daughter recorded the conversation and asked loads of questions, it's just sad that you weren't there. Maybe ring the hospital and ask them questions obviously with your mums permission, where in the country are you? How is your mum taking the news? Do you mind me asking how old your mum is? I was 55. I had the lumpectomy within about 3 weeks of getting the results then had 15 sessions of radiotherapy, this started about a month after. I had treatment everyday so it took about 3 weeks then I got to ring the bell which was a massive step for me, it sounds silly but means a lot. I have had some trouble with the hormone tablets and am currently on my 3 type, they do give some people side effects but obviously better than the cancer coming back although my oncologist has said that the op reduces the chances by 95% and the tabs only another 1%, I know some people stop taking them cos they struggle with side effects. How old are you Laura? Xx

  • Hello

thanks for your reply. My Mum is 59 and we live in London so we went to the north London breast clinic. I have just recently had a baby boy so it's just me mum and him. It all seems to have happened so fast. And I just had so many questions today and my mum wasn't up to asking them as she was alone and in shock I think. They said he lymph nodes looked clear on the ultrasound so I guess that is reliable is it? They mentioned about a trial they are doing for a new vacuum removal but they just gave her the leaflet. I was just wondering with it being small is that a good sign etc and all these different types of breast cancer. It sounds like you have a wonderful family and I am so pleased you got through this. You are a real inspiration to others xxxxx

  • Hi laura

sorry for the late reply, your mum is around my age then, my daughter had a baby boy a few months ago, a precious darling and very much loved after she had suffered 3 miscarriages. I assume your mum was having regular mammograms? It's good news about her lymph nodes tho, I know the incision under my arm to remove the lymph nodes was worse than the incision on the boob. The trial sounds interesting, it would mean no incision's I guess which would be better for your mum although my recovery was quite fast and I flew to Vienna 2 weeks after. Yes it is good it being small it means they've caught it early. Please Laura don't look on the internet about different breast cancers cos everybody is different, you will upset yourself. Thank you for saying that but I just like to help people going through it and can only go by my experience, sending love xx
