Two Days til my Lumpectomy

Hello everyone, I’ve just found you. I’ve been diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer and I’m due to have a lumpectomy this Friday (14th June). I’ve been told that my lump is about 16mm and that ultimately I should be able to “get away” with just having radiotherapy.

I found my cancer not by feeling a lump, but by noticing a puckering (or tethering) underneath my left breast. How long had it been there, I wonder?! My GP said she could feel a lump (I couldn’t) as did the consultant. The mammogram did not pick it up, but the ultrasound did, I had a biopsy and was diagnosed.

I go tomorrow to have the dye in the lymph nodes appointment and my surgery is the day after.  I’m sure I will be asking lots of questions on here in the coming weeks!

  • I bet you are pleased to be out the other side of the op, and it's good that you are doing the exercises. I'm just jumping in to say that you probably will have clear margins, but if not, please don't worry about further surgery. I had 3 ops to get clear margins, and honestly they were perfectly straightforward. Hopefully, though, you won't need further surgery. All the best during your recovery and as you wait for your results.

  • It never occurred to me that my margins wouldn’t be clear, but hey ho I was in the 15% of cases that don’t have clear margins. Like [@Blackcat01]‍ says the margins clearance op is much easier as your are not under long. It took 3 months wait for my clearance so impressed they can do it in two weeks where you live.

  • Hi there ...

Well you get a brave soldger badge ... (that's what we got when we were young)

You did it .. got that little uninvited guest taken out ... see the scariest bit is the wait .. the fear of the unknown ... once you've done it, you can breath again ...

So on and up ... keep kicking cancers ***... there's light at the end of the tunnel now ...

Sending you a vertual hug.... Chrissie xx  really proud of you ...

  • Thank you, lovelies, for your messages re the margins (clear or otherwise).  It’s very reassuring! I’ll report back in due course. Xx
