metatastic breast cancer with liver metts

I have been diagnosed with metatastic breast cancer with liver metts .Iam a 52 year old mum with 6 grown up children ,and 2 young  Grand daughters.I am currently taking Letrozole , Palbociclib, and Zoladex injections once a month .I have been told it isnt curable, but is managable on the medication,so say for a few years .Has anyone out there got a similar diagnosis to me ,as the diagnosis is very hard to come to terms with, not knowing .I have to wait to the end of July for the CT scan to see if the medication is working, and to make sure it hasnt spread .A very worrying time for me .If anyone going through this can give me any advice about it .eg How they are coping ,feeling etc any feedback would be helpful.Cocksedge.

  • Hi  did you manage to get your injection in the end for the bone strenghner.I saw the consultant sent me for a chest xray for the pains in my chest ive been having. Dont appear to worried about things .He did say my white cell count is 1 below them having to stop the tablets, so my immune system as you know yourself is very low.I asked the consultant roughly how long i had to live or could live .He said the expectancy is 2 years for this ,but he did say .He thought i would respond well to chemotherapy,so just have to wait and see what happens .As you will know they cant tell you for definite ,but i needed some sort an idea how long .Hopefully will be longer.Im going to stay positive for my parner ,children ,and Grandchildren ,and i am going to fight it every step of the way ,and enjoy every day i have ,as i think thats what we need to do .Let me know how you get on .Lots of lovexx

  • Hi so nice to hear back from you .Hope you are ok .I had my 3 monthly scan a couple of weeks ago .The good news is it hasnt spread any futher. However i did develope a chest infection which made me quite poorly. They so say picked it up on the scans i had .They sent me for a chest Xray and a pulmonary angiogram CT.I still seem to have pains in my chest ,but they said that is the tail end of it .also under both sides of my ribs hurt some days is really bad .,but other than that seem to be ok .Im abit more positive now .How are you feeling? .Im so glad you replied ,as it is nice ,as you are the only person i know who has similar to me .Yours is worse than mine ,as at least mine isnt in the bones. I had my daughters graduation last monday it was a lovely day .,and my dauhter and her partner did the race for life in aid of me which i thought was a lovely gesture .The weather has been lovely lately which has given me a real boost .Lots of love xx

  • Hi,

So glad to hear that your scan was okay.Your medication seems to be working,it’s does make you feel better that things are going okay.

I had my scan about 3weeks ago,but it was early I had only been on my medication for two cycles Unfortunately one of my liver mets has grown, and something on bones which doctor and radiology are unsure if it is new bone regenerating or cancer. But they are going to scan me again on the 13 th August and I see the onicoligist on the 15th which is good so not to much of a wait for results.Thry not talking about targated therapy but chemo.Never wanted to go down that road yet as it’s to early hoped the meds would work a bit longer. But hoping the liver met maybe has shrunk I am praying it has.

You must have been so proud to see your daughter graduating. That was nice of your daughters partner doing the race for life.

I did it Twelve years ago in aid of my dad.

Weather here has been hot,us Scots not used to hot weather,it has been overcast for a few days now but warm.

Went to a secondary breast care meeting and met some lovely ladies, who are all at different stages, but they are so lovely to be around, you feel as if you are not along. We sort of learn of each other what we are going through and personally understand a bit more.

Still working full time, but family said I have to cut down hours,I know they are worried but I feel well enough at the moment to continue,I would only be sat at home thinking,While at work I am surrounded by people and I can chat away.I am a receptionist at an leisure Centre so I am sitting.my Manager has giving me a room to go to if a need to get away, for a break, have not used this room yet.

well you take care and I hope your pain gets better.hope to hear from you soon will give you an update about scan.xxx

  • so sorry to hear about your scan .I was lucky it is working for me .I really hope your next scan gives you better results .It is such a worry with this disease.im so glad you want to stay in touch as its nice to be able to chat with someone with similar circumstances .Take care for now .Keep me updated how you get on .Im always here if you want to chat about anything .Take carex

  • Hi friend,

Just Thought I would give you update.Scan now shows Palbociclib and Letrozole are in fact making mets smaller in liver, there are a few in there that are still the same size not bigger as this was what the other doctor had said.so Onicoligist has said no chemo stay on Palbociclib and Letrozole, and all is stable.

So really happy can stay on this treatment a bit longer,

I hope you are well.or as well as you can be.

Probably look at going away for a few days with husband,as it’s been a rubbish summer worrying.

    Xxxxxx

  • Hi just thought i would message you ,as havent heard from you in a while .Hope you are ok ,and hope you managed to get away ,and enjoy your holiday .Since we last spoke my consultant forgot to prescribe my chemo tablets ,and as it was over the bank holiday ihad to wait till after to get them which made me over a week late taking them. Since then i havent felt so well, but probably coincidence. The consultant wants me to have fortesips due to my weight loss ,as he says 7kgs is too much to lose, and says he doesnt want me to lose anymore. Its just one thing after the other .I expect you must feel the same. I work for the NHS ,so i asked if i could cash my pension in ,but they told me at HR you can only cash it in and get a lump sum if you only have 12 months to live, but she did say if i have to stop work on medical grounds .I will get it in smaller amounts .Are you still managing to work ?.Hope to hear from you soon x
