Breast Cancer

Hi, I was diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday, what a shock when you are told!! I am sure many of you have been there. Thankfully it is in the very early stages and is treatable as long as MRI does not show up anything else. Have to say dreading the MRI as I am extremely claustrophobic, any advice would be great how you coped with the MRI. I feel today as if I am in a bubble as this happens to other people , not yourself or so I thought !

    Hi Chicken,

It is always difficult to make the right decision of lumpectomy versus mastectomy, as nobody wants to lose a breast uneccessarily. I have had both and, must confess that I felt much happier after I had my double mastectomy, as I felt that everything had been removed and, I had done all I could to get rid of the cancer.  That was almost 9 years ago and I've never looked back.

Sadly, the decision is one that only you can make and, you have to live with that for the rest of your days, so you have to decide what is right for you.

I sincerely hope that you reach the right decision for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Chrissie,

It needs to be loud enough to conceal all the clunks and clicks of the machine for me - none of the nice namby pamby tunes for me!

I like your idea of 'gotta get outta this place'.  I wonder what other tunes people find helpful? Maybe we should start a new thread for suggestions?

    Kind regards,

  • I had my MRI scan after a night shift so I was tired and drifted off. Lying face down helped too.

Maybe sleep deprivation is the way forward.

  • hi everyone.

i thought I would share my experience of the MRI. I had music but it wasn’t loud enoug. So I did visualisation and breathing.  Visualised my favourite place, how it makes me feel from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. It seemed to work.

Its daunting to have further scans, I think I’ve had a full house of them, but you will know everything that’s going on and then you can deal with whatever it is.   Mine showed up an inflamed appendix, I had no symptoms, but it could have really caused some serious issues during chemo. So I had it removed this morning. After recovery I can get on with the treatment.

    big hugs to you all.

    Hi Wollylamb,

I'm glad to hear that you have had your appendix removed today, even though I'm sure that you feel somewhat tender at the moment. I had to do the same when I had my gall bladder removed, but it was a relief to get it out of the way before it complicated my surgery.

I hope that you recover from this quickly and, can then get on with your chemo.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
