mri scan following diagnosis of breast cancer

Hi all. On Tuesday I had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy and consultant has said I have breast cancer. This was a massive shock as I only found the lump at the weekend and have no family history.I have an appointment in two weeks to see her again(she said nothing will happen before then) where she said there will be more results from the biopsy to be able to stage it and look at treatment. She said treatment will likely involve surgery and chemo given my age (33)

Anyway iv been telephoned with an mri scan appointment today  (which she said I wouldn't be having as on the ultrasound it didn't look like it had spread to my lymph nodes) so I am now worrying she has seen something on my biopsy that suggests I need an mri to check for it spreading.so my question is, has anyone been routinely sent for an mri following first diagnosis??

Thanks

  • Hi,

It happened to me too, such a shock. Within two weeks of finding a lump in my breast, I had ultrasound, mammogram, biopsy followed by MRI scan and am now booked for cat scan and sentinel node scan. Surgery is booked for December.  Once Consultants have all the results, they decide on the treatment. Everybody is different.  I trust my team to do the best for me. Wishing you all the best  x
