Thinking

Hi

i have cervical cancer early stages Ib2 and was told last that I would be having a hysterectomy and radiotherapy by my local hospital but another hospital are saying chemotherapy and radiotherapy, surely hysterectomy would be better as it will be all gone ? As I don't want anymore children as I have 2 (1 boy 20 and a girl 15)

just wondering what people thought ?

Xx

  • Hi

Meeting with different consultant on Tuesday. Apparently wait for the next tests is no more than two weeks....

Hope your cold gets better x

  • Hi Limesbabe

I'm sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with cervical cancer, hearing the c word is terrifying and it takes a while to sink in but they've caught it early and you can and will beat it.

I was diagnosed stage 1b1 in 2013 and had a radical hysterectomy. My margins and lymph nodes were clear so I didn't need chemoradiation. The surgery wasn't as bad as I expected and I haven't had any lasting issues. I'm not sure what the gold standard treatment is for stage 1b2 but your consultant should be able to tell you which is the best option for you. Unfortunately I had a recurrence in 2015 and I had chemoradiation then and I found that difficult but not unmanageable. Going for radiotherapy five days a week is tiring and the cumulative effect of the radiotherapy adds to that. Radiotherapy also messes with your bowels and after the first two weeks I had constant diahorrea but my cancer had spread to my lymph nodes so the radiation field covered the tumour at the bottom of my abdomen and up the middle towards my chest. I didn't really have any side effects from the chemo although I didn't have my last one - due to the problems caused by diahorrea I was low on so many minerals that they admitted me and hooked me up to a drip for a few days. But everyone reacts differently to the treatment and some women have few issues. If you go down the chemoradiation route make sure you look after yourself, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and have some Imodium handy just in case. Please come back and let us know what treatment is planned and if you have any questions just shout.

  • Hi Limesbabe and Toblerone

Sorry Limesbabe I thought your diagnosis was 1b2. Chemoradiation is the standard treatment for 2A. You can both do this .... It's not easy but it is manageable. Plus it works, mine had spread to my para aortic nodes and I've been clear for nearly 2 years. Please come back and let me know how you are getting on.

  • Hi

Long chat yesterday with the doc that will oversee the treatment. Rather overwhelming and emotional. I will have a timetable printed out as so much to remember. I have a pet scan on Friday.

All seems an odd balance of surreal and overwhelming. Felt very emotional yesterday, short bursts of tears and feeling tired. Not sure if that's just emotional tiredness though. Feel as if I should get a grip, get active, get fight fit!

Hope you are feeling ok and your shifts don't make you too tired. Any news yet?
