Feeling lost too

wife has been diagnosed today with a 22mm lump and 2 smaller lumps.

feeling devastated and lost at the minute and on the verge of, if not, in tears all the time!

we have 2 young boys too.

reading some of these comments has helped already though.

hopefully I'll wake up in the morning with a more positive outlook!!

  • Hello Peter,

Once your wife gets her biopsy results, you’ll be in a better position to get everything moving along quickly. Once a diagnosis of cancer has been reached, the next stage will be for the oncologist to discuss the best way to treat your wife and give her all the options. At this point you could decide you wanted to go down the private route but it won’t necessarily mean she gets treated quicker as the process from this point is exactly the same. If your wife has radiotherapy she would need to go to the radiotherapy unit which will be the same whether she is being treated privately or on the NHS. The same usually applies with surgery and chemotherapy although these treatments can be carried out at a private hospital too. We have some information about private treatment on our website here.

I hope this helps a little!

We'll be thinking of you on Monday. Do come back and let us know what they said if you get a chance!

  • Thanks again

ny wife is saying she is aching in a lot of places and has pains in her shoulders, she is worried it has spread to her bones!

im telling her she's just thinking that cos she's run down and linking it all together.

im assuming if it wasn't in her lymph nodes it can't have spread anywhere else!?

  • Peter,

Don't waste your money. The only times I might be tempted to go private would be in the initial stages when access to CT and MRI scans and biopsy results can be quicker, if I needed a treatment that NICE won't allow the NHS to supply or if I needed surgery and the local NHS was failing to provide access in good time.

I found that once I had my biopsy results back and a treatment plan agreed I started treatment within a week and I couldn't fault that aspect of my NHS care.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Thanks dave

we just want it started asap!

have absolutely nothing against the NHS and am sure their care will be fantastic but will happily pay if they can do the op the next day or two rather than wait two weeks
