Coping mechanisms - been told I might have smouldering myeloma or myeloma. Won't find out for another 3 weeks as case being discussed at MDT

Hi, I have been told I have either smouldering myeloma or myeloma.  I thought I had osteoarthritis!! My appointment for diagnosis was next Monday but I’ve had a phone call saying it’s now 3 weeks Monday because of my case being discussed at MDT.  Normally I’m a level headed, rational person.  That person has gone.  My mind is in overdrive.  My husband said he can’t talk to me.  I haven’t told anyone in my family.  I work in the NHS, which is good and bad.  Please tell me how to you all have coped with similar situations?? Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum Soozyque although I'm sorry to hear that you may have smouldering myeloma or myeloma.

This must be a very stressful and worrying time but our members are here for you Soozyque and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their support and advice.

In the meantime, I hope this guide we have on how to cope with waiting for news, and these tips the NHS have for managing anxiety will help calm your mind during this period of uncertainty.

If it would help to talk things through with someone, you can give our cancer nurses a call next week on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to support you and address any other questions or concerns you may have at this time.

We're thinking of you Soozyque and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
