In shock: I have endometrial cancer which looks like stage one

Just had a call today following biopsies and heard the words you have cancer...that is not all that was said, and I'm still processing and filtering. I have endometrial cancer which looks like stage one, now waiting for an mri appointment. I have been reading all day, I know it could be so much worse, I'm aware of all the facts and stats, but I still feel in a state of shock, I can't bring myself to tell anyone because I'm not sure I can handle the reactions. I feel kind of numb, like it's all a strange dream. I apologise for not making any sense, and if I don't respond, I just needed to say out out loud somewhere, I have cancer, I still don't quite believe it !!!

  • Hi, I am in the same position as you.  I was told on 9 July I had endometrial cancer but they think they caught it early.  It was picked up after a polyp removal and biopsy.  The polyp was precancerous and the biopsy was some cancerous and precancerous cells.  I had a MRI scan on 17 July and am now waiting results.  Like you, I have up and down days and feel numb.  I’ve told my siblings and best friend but kept it from my elderly parents until I know more.  I am so scared but they were talking that it could just be hormone treatment needed and they have already started me on the drug hormone Provera.

  • Hi im sorry to read your diagnosis. Can I please ask how long your biopsy results took?  I had biopsies 7 weeks ago and there was a large suspicious polyp removed.  I keep trying to chase result as was told looked like cancer but getting.nowhere as said samples sent to outside lab.  I am beside myself waiting  7 weeks with no news.  Was this your experience?  Thanks.

  • I had a polyp removal and biopsy on the 19 June and had a phone call to book a follow up appt on 4 July.  My follow up on 9 July and found out the polyp was precancerous and the biopsy had both cancerous and precancerous cells.  I was then booked for a MRI scan on 17 July and a week later I found out I was stage 1a.  I already n knew I was type 1, grade 1.  I’m currently being treated with the hormone Provera as I am classed as high risk for surgery due to other medical conditions.  I have to have another biopsy every 3 months to see if the cancerous cells are reversing.

  • Took 2 weeks and now have had op and waiting yet another set of results pretty anxious because couldn’t take lymph node sample

  • I too had my op just over 2 weeks ago. My cancer nurse rang end of last week and I was having a tearful day. The next day she rang again… thinking she was checking up again she said she had been chatting to my consultant who said my results were back. Tests confirmed what the scan had previously said 1 1A so no further treatment for me. Obviously just check ups.

I hope you get the same results too. Waiting is painful.

  • Thank you pretty anxious because couldn’t take Lymph node sample but hopefully there was a good reason for it?

  • I don’t know if they took a biopsy of mine or not. When consultant came to see me on the ward she said everything looked as it should and nothing was out of the ordinary. Unfortunately she mixed my Colon, but was checked by on call surgeon and no stitches were required just intravenous antibiotics and a 48 hour clear fluid diet!

( having soup for breakfast was weird)

Hopefully you get your results soon. Do you have a cancer nurse? If so maybe try ringing her, say how anxious you are!

  • Yes your right I could do that wether she’ll be able to reassure me I’m not sure, I tried to ring her about my compression socks last week but got no answer so had to ring G P. Soup for breakfast do t think it will catch on

  • I was lucky, rang mine and she rang me back within an hour. I started bleeding the night before last, after no bleeding after operation. So was worried. Apparently it’s quite normal! Soup for breakfast will definitely not catch on .

  • That would have been very scary good job she was there for you, I’ll let you know how I go on. Look after yourself and keep in touchx
