Apricot kernels

I have secondary breast cancer and someone told me Apricot kernels and soursop tea and blackseed oil are all really good . I am having SABR treatment at moment and will all have chemotherapy.  Is isafe to try these other things too or should I wait till treatment ends

  • Welcome to the forum, Loulabell.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

While it's understandable that you're exploring other options alongside your SABR treatment and upcoming chemotherapy, it's crucial to discuss any additional supplements or alternative therapies with your medical team before incorporating them into your treatment plan.

Certain supplements or herbal remedies may interact with your prescribed treatments or have unintended effects. Your doctors can provide personalised advice based on your specific situation and ensure that any complementary treatments you consider are safe and appropriate for you, considering your ongoing treatment regimen.

Soursop (Graviola) is a substance that comes from a tree in the rain forests of Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Overall, there is no evidence to show that Graviola works as a treatment for cancer. Many sites on the internet advertise and promote Graviola capsules as a cancer cure, but none of them are supported by any reputable scientific cancer organisations. We have more information on our website: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancer-in-general/treatment/complementary-alternative-therapies/individual-therapies/graviola

Laetrile is found in apricot kernals and bitter almonds and has been described as a highly active compound that can cure cancer. Unfortunately this is simply not true. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/treatment/complementary-alternative-therapies/individual-therapies/laetrile Many websites promote laetrile as a cure for cancer. But no reputable scientific cancer organisations support any of these claims. Be cautious about believing this type of information or paying for any alternative cancer therapy over the internet.

As for blackseed oil, which is also known as nigella sativa, much of the research on its effects on cancer uses cells rather than live humans, so researchers do not yet know how effective the oil may be to treat cancer in people.

There is also some information on our website about safety of complementary and alternative therapies you might find interesting to read.

I hope this helps. Ultimately, the choice of treatment is yours to make, however, I encourage you to bear in mind the importance of consulting with your medical team and making decisions grounded on scientific evidence.

    With best wishes,

  • The link to graviola supplied by the moderator is very interesting. I've been looking into alternative therapies, but I'm too scared to risk not having radiotherapy, even though the potential side effects are scary too. I'm definitely going to research graviola a bit more. I'd discuss potential issues such as drug interactions with your doc
