Question about chemo for her2+ breast cancer

I was diagnosed last week, and have my first oncology appointment this Thursday. I know I'm getting 9 rounds of chemo (3week breaks inbetween). I'm also getting two targeted medicines. My breast cancer is invasive ductal stage 2/3 and in 3 lymph nodes, her2+ I have my mri on my breasts tomorrow.

but I was wondering as anyone had similar treatment to mine? I will be doing everything my consultant suggests- im trying to read up, but I'm struggling to find similar cases

thanks

  • Hi [@Boymamancl]‍ I was diagnosed with IDC grade 3 on the 20th.  My HER result is not back yet so not sure of that status.  When the did the ultrasound and examination nothing in the lymph nodes could be seen/felt but I have an MRI tomorrow night to confirm and stage it.  So sorry I can't help but sounds like we may end up on the same treatment pathway...Let me know how your MRI was!!

  • Hiya I found the mri totally fine. The cod liver oil capsules on my nipples was bit strange. But I had earphones one and didn't find it nearly as uncomfortable as I'd heard. Was 1/2 hour. 15 minutes without contrast then 1/2 with. Good luck with yours- I don't get results until next week

  • Well I had no idea about the cod liver oil so thats something to look forward to :).  Let me know when you get your results. x

  • Hi

Just looking at a few posts and thought I could add my diagnosis and experience so far. I was diagnosed in February with breast cancer grade 3 and HER2 positive .I started my treatment at end of march for my first chemo and have now 4 more to complete with one targeted injection 3 weeks apart. I won't lie the side effects aren't nice but I'm getting through with good family and friends supporting me. If anyone wants to ask anything I'm more than happy to help where possible.  At the moment my worst symptom is nausea and chronic heartburn. Got Gaviscon to help but wondered if anyone had any dietary advice or anything to help with the nausea. We can get through this girls and nice to talk with those who can empathise too.

  • Hi, I have been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3.  Not met with consultant yet but have been told likely to get chemo first then surgery.

Chemo is freaking me out.  I know side effects are different for everyone but what is your experience of it ? Are you bed ridden or able to do stuff? I am absolutely dreading it!

  • Hi [@Marilynjane]‍ sorry to read of your diagnosis.  I've read that you are usually offered an anti sickness pill to combat the nausea, have you not been offered this?

  • If I'm honest I have been in and out of bed each time. Try and get up for a couple of hours then go back to bed for a bit. My main problem is the nausea feeling and trying to eat to have some energy. Everyone seems to react a bit differently and difficult to predict.

  • Yes thanks I'm on metoclopramide 3 tabs a day. But still getting a heartburn feeling .

  • Hi [@toottoot]‍ how did your mri go? X

  • Not good @boymamancl - I’ve had one before but it was head and neck last time so I wandered in the room tonight thinking it would be the same and how wrong could I have been. I found it horrific and my whole body was clenched the entire time I was in there, I found it so suffocating, the only thing that stopped me from squeezing the emergency thing was the thought that they’d have to start again. I can put up with the noise but face down into darkness just put me over the edge and I’ve been tearful ever since. I'm going to see if sedation is a possibility next time.  Its given me a real wobble, I thought I could handle anything... Good news is my results appt came through this morning Thurs 4th so I don't have long to wait and I'm off to Marrakesh on the 5th :) (no evidence of any cod liver oil at my appt :))  What date is your results appr?
